Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Lansing Catholic High School

Falcons Lose: 41 - 59
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team season came to a close Friday night at the Breslin Center in the Division 2 semifinal game against Lansing Catholic. Playing in back to back final four appearances the Falcons were able to jump out to a 17-6 first quarter lead behind 7 points from Cadence Dykstra. West scored only one basket in the second quarter but still led 20-14 at the half. The Falcons held a slim 31-30 lead going into the fourth quarter but Lansing Catholic went 21/25 from the free throw line in the decisive fourth quarter and went on to win 59-41. West was led in scoring by Cadence Dykstra's 13 points. Elisha Dykstra and Reese Polega both added 9 points and Emma Tuttle had 7 rebounds. The 26-1/14-0 (OK Blue) West Catholic Falcons will greatly miss the leadership and play from their three seniors Ellie Bies, Cadence Dykstra and Grace Nyeholt and look forward to the continued play of juniors Becca Tuttle, Emma Tuttle, Reese Polega and sophomores Elisha Dykstra, Anna Ignatoski and Paige Seely-London. Falcons Lose: 41 - 59
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team season came to a close Friday night at the Breslin Center in the Division 2 semifinal game against Lansing Catholic. The 26-1/14-0 (OK Blue) West Catholic Falcons will greatly miss the leadership and play from their three seniors Ellie Bies, Cadence Dykstra and Grace Nyeholt and look forward to the continued play of juniors Becca Tuttle, Emma Tuttle, Reese Polega and sophomores Elisha Dykstra, Anna Ignatoski and Paige Seely-London. Falcons Win: 51 - 37
BRESLIN BOUND! The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played in a Division 2 Quarterfinal game at Hopkins Tuesday night against OK Blue conference rival Holland Christian for a place in the D2 final four Friday night at Michigan State. The Falcons used an aggressive defense to jump out to a 12-3 first quarter lead and Elisha Dykstra scored 9 of her 13 points in the first half to help extend West's lead to 27-14 going into the locker room. Becca Tuttle provided a great spark by knocking down two big three pointers, one in each half, to help keep Holland Christian from getting any closer than eight points. Reese Polega hit three free throws late in the fourth quarter to help seal the 51-37 victory. Cadence Dykstra led all scorers with 16 points and was 10/15 from the free throw line. Emma Tuttle helped control the boards with 12 rebounds and had  8 points. West Catholic will play in the Division 2 semifinal game against Lansing Catholic Friday night at the Breslin Center. Tip is scheduled for 7:30. Go West!

Falcons Win: 53 - 45
Regional Champions! The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played in the regional championship at Comstock Park Thursday night against Grand Rapids Christian. In a instant classic that went into overtime, West Catholic defeated the Eagles 53-45 in a overtime thriller. Christian led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and both teams went back and forth before West Catholic led 25-24 going into the half. West picked up their. defensive intensity in the third quarter and led 38-28 going into the fourth quarter. Christian hit three 3 pointers in the fourth quarter and eventually tied the game 38-38 at the end of regulation. The Falcons made 9 free throws in the overtime in their 53-45 victory. Ellie Bies helped set the tone on defense and was the leading scorer with 19 points. Cadence Dykstra had 13 points and Elisha Dykstra added 10 points. The Falcons will next play in the quarter finals at Hopkins against Holland Christian. Tip is 7 pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 52 - 39
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened up regional play Tuesday night at Comstock Park against the Raiders from Portland. The Falcon jumped out to an early 14-2 first quarter before Portland found their scoring touch in the second quarter. West took a 28-21 lead into the half behind 6 points from Elisha Dykstra. The Falcons were able to extend their lead to thirteen points going into the fourth quarter and West went on to win 52-39. The Falcons were led in scoring by Elisha Dykstra's 13 points and Cadence Dykstra and Emma Tuttle both added 12 points. Tuttle also had 9 rebounds. The Falcons will play in the regional championship Thursday night against Grand Rapids Christian back at Comstock Park. Tip is 7pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 67 - 49
DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team defeated Catholic Central 67-49 in the District 42 finals Friday night at West Catholic. The first quarter went back and forth before the Falcons went on a 23-12 run to close out the half and take a 39-30 lead to go into the half. The Falcons continued their defensive pressure led by Ellie Bies and her three steals and her 5/6 free throws as the Falcons led 51-37 going into the fourth quarter. Reese Polega led all scorers with 21 points and Cadence Dykstra had 12 points and Emma Tuttle had 9 points.. The Falcons will next take on Portland in the regionals semi finals at Comstock Park, Tuesday night at 7pm. Go West!!

Falcons Win: 61 - 31
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team began district play against Forest Hills Eastern Wednesday night at West Catholic. West started fast scoring the first eight points of the game before Eastern found some offense and West led 10-7 after the first quarter. Paige Seely-London hit a big three pointer from the corner to help get the Falcon's offense going in the second quarter and broke open a close game as West outscored FHE 17-5 in the frame and took a 27-11 lead at the half. Elllie Bies helped lead way on defense in the second half with 4 steals, was 3/3 from the foul line and finished with 9 points. Reese Polega hit two 3's and had 10 points. Cadence Dykstra had 12 points and Elisha Dykstra led all scorers with 19 points. The Falcons will play in the district finals Friday night at West Catholic. Tip is 7pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 64 - 32
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team finished out the regular season at the Holland Civic Center in front of an energized Holland Christian crowd on Friday night and completed the season sweep of the Maroons. The Falcons took the opening tip and scored the first 6 points of the game before Holland Christian settled in on their senior night, and West led 10-9 after the first quarter. The second quarter went back and forth before the Falcons went on a run late in the quarter and took a 29-16 lead into the half. West Catholic hit five 3 pointers in the third quarter, two from Reese Polega, and held Holland Christian to just five points, as they extended their lead to 50-21 going into the final quarter. The Falcons played great complimentary basketball on both ends of the court and were led in scoring by Cadence Dykstra, who was able to carve through the lane for 19 points. Becca Tuttle, who had great hustle plays on offense and defense had 13 points and Reese Polega finished with 11 points. Emma Tuttle added 9 points and 8 rebounds. The 21-0/14-0 OK Blue Champions Falcons will open district play at West Catholic on Wednesday at 5:30 against the Monday winner of Comstock Park/Forest Hills Eastern. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team celebrated senior night with an impressive 66-33 win over visiting Hamilton. Senior Grace Nyeholt helped get the Falcons going by knocking down an early three pointer in the first quarter as the home team Falcons jumped out to an 18-7 first quarter lead. Senior Ellie Bies helped set the defensive tone with 4 steals and added 4 points. Senior Cadence Dykstra was disruptive with great defensive pressure and led all scorers with 18 points. Reese Polega and Elisha Dykstra both had 12 points for the 20-0/13-0 (OK Blue) West Catholic Falcons. West will close out the regular season Friday night at Holland Christian. Falcons Win: 74 - 2
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played at home in front of a great crowd in support of Gabe Augdal and #FaithOverFear supporting awareness and the research for the cure of Desmoid Tumors against visiting Fruitport. The Falcons cruised in their victory and all the Falcons scored in their 74-2 victory. Falcons scoring tonight: Emma Tuttle 5 points, Becca Tuttle and Grace Nyeholt 7 points, Ellie Bies 8 points and 4 steals, Cadence Dykstra 10 points, Paige Seely-London 11 points, Elisha Dykstra 13 points, and Reese Polega led all scorers with 15 points. West Catholic, 19-0/12-0 (OK Blue), will play next on Tuesday at West honoring their three seniors, tip is approximately 7:00. Go West!

Falcons Win: 70 - 24
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Coopersville for an OK Blue contest on Tuesday night. The Falcons aggressive defense set the tone early in the game creating easy scoring opportunities on their way to a 25 point first quarter. Elisha Dykstra lead the early scoring flurry with 12 first quarter points. Ellie Bies and Emma Tuttle controlled the boards limiting any second chance scoring opportunities for the Broncos and the Falcons played selfless basketball in their 79-24 victory. Several Falcons made it into the scoring column led by Elisha Dykstra's 18 points. Cadence Dykstra ran the offense and added 17 points. Emma Tuttle had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Reese Polega had three 3 pointers and finished with 11 points. Next up for the 18-0/11-0 (OK Blue) Falcons will be Fruitport Friday night at West Catholic. Tip is 6 pm. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played at home Friday night and never trailed on their way to a 52-12 victory. West Catholic was led by Elisha Dykstra's 12 points. Reese Polega hit three 3 pointers and had 9 points and Ellie Bies had several steals and added 8 points. The 17-0/10-0 (OK Blue) Falcons will travel to Coopersville on Tuesday. Falcons Win: 65 - 23
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team returned home to face the Lakers from Spring Lake Tuesday night. The Falcons started fast running out to an 18-2 first quarter lead. Reese Polega helped get the scoring spree started with two first quarter 3 pointers and the defense didn't allow a first quarter score until two minutes to go in the quarter. West had a strong defensive effort and Emma Tuttle controlled the boards with 11 rebounds. Cadence Dykstra had a strong game running the offense and led all scorers with 18 points. Reese Polega and Elisha Dykstra both went 4/4 from the free throw line and finished with 16 and 14 points respectively. The 16-0/9-0 (OK Blue) Falcons play Friday night at home against Allendale. The West Catholic girls basketball team was back on the court Friday night at Unity Christian and never trailed on their way to a 59-24 victory. Cadence Dykstra led all scorers with 16 points and Elisha Dykstra and Ellie Bies both had 10 points. Emma Tuttle owned the boards with 15 rebounds. The West Catholic girls basketball traveled to Fruitport on Friday night for an OK Blue matchup. The Falcons jumped out to an early 19-2 first quarter lead on to a 65-45 victory. Cadence Dykstra led all scorers with 14 points and Emma Tuttle had a double double with 13 points and 21 rebounds and Ellie Bies added 13 points. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Allendale for an OK Blue game on Friday night. The Falcons led from start to finish and all from the westside scored in the 48-19 victory over Allendale. Cadence Dykstra led all scorers with 14 points and Reese Polega and Emma Tuttle both had 8 points. Tuttle also pulled down 11 rebounds. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Spring Lake for their first road conference game on Tuesday night. The Lakers struggled against the aggressive Falcons defense as West started fast scoring early and often in the first quarter racing out to a 19-3 first lead. Every Falcon scored in the 58-25 victory led by Elisha Dykstra%u2019s 20 points. Ellie Bies, Cadence Dykstra and Reese Polega each added 8 points. Grace Nyeholt, Becca Tuttle, Paige Seely-London and Emma Tuttle all scored and provided great defensive pressure throughout the game and Emma Tuttle helped control the boards with 9 rebounds. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened up the 2023 portion of their season at home against visiting Unity Christian. The Falcons jumped out to an early 19-11 lead in the first quarter led by Elisha Dykstra%u2019s 14 points. Reese Polega had 8 points in the second quarter as the Falcons extended their lead to 42-27 at the half. Emma Tuttle controlled the boards with her 11 rebounds and 7 points and the Falcons led 54-33 going into the fourth quarter. Becca Tuttle scored 6 of her 8 points in the fourth quarter and the Falcons won 62-46. Elisha Dykstra had 15 points and Cadence Dykstra led all scorers with 18 points. Falcons Win: 61 - 54
The West Catholic girls basketball team played in the championship game of the Cornerstone University Holiday Basketball Tournament against the Rockford Rams Thursday morning at Cornerstone. Both teams had a slow start before Paige Seely-London knocked down three of her four 3 pointers in the second quarter propelling the Falcons to a 29-24 halftime lead. The Falcons picked up their defensive intensity in the second half led by strong effort from Ellie Bies and Emma Tuttle. Senior Cadence Dykstra took over in the fourth quarter and the Falcons made 8 of 9 free throws on their way to a 61-54 victory over the previously unbeaten Rockford Rams. The Falcons once again had balanced scoring led by all tournament team Cadence Dykstra%u2019s 14 points. Paige Seely%u2014London had 12 points, Ellie Bies had 11 points and all tournament team Becca Tuttle had 10 points. Elisha Dykstra had 8 points in the second half and Emma Tuttle who had double digits in rebounds finished with 4 points. The 7-0 Falcons will will open the 2023 part of their season at home on Friday, January 6th, against Unity Christian. Tip off is 6:00pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 51 - 37
The West Catholic girls basketball team played Grand Rapids Christian in the second game of the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament Tuesday night. Trailing 15-10 at the six minute mark of the second quarter the Falcons sparked by an increase in defensive intensity went on a 13-2 run and took a 23-17 lead into halftime. West had balanced scoring and all of the Falcons scored on their way to a 51-37 victory over the Eagles. Elisha Dykstra had 10 points and Cadence Dykstra had 9 points. Becca Tuttle hit a key three pointer late in the third quarter and finished with 8 points. Emma Tuttle also had 8 points. Next the 6-0 Falcons will play Rockford in the finals Thursday afternoon right back at Cornerstone. Tip off is 4:45. Go West!

The West Catholic girls basketball team took to the road once again Friday night when they traveled to Wayland in non conference action. Junior Becca Tuttle had the hot hand for the visiting Falcons leading all scorers with 18 points. The Falcons had a strong defensive and rebounding effort from Emma Tuttle and Ellie Bies helping to hold the Wildcats to just 13 first half points. Cadence Dykstra was steady running the offense and added 13 points and Ellie Bies and Reese Polega both finished with 9 points in the 66-31 victory. The 5-0 Falcons will participate in the Cornerstone University Holiday Basketball Tournament beginning on Tuesday against Grand Rapids Christian. Tip off is scheduled for 4:45. Go West!
Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Muskegon High School

Falcons Win: 49 - 35
The West Catholic girls basketball team took to the road on Tuesday night to face a very talented and tough Muskegon Big Reds team in non conference play. The Falcons had exceptional defensive effort in the 2nd half on their way to a 49-35 victory. Senior Captain Cadence Dykstra and junior Reese Polega made clutch free throws down the stretch in the decisive fourth quarter. Cadence finished with 17 points and Elisha Dykstra had 14. Reese Polega pitched in 8 points while Emma Tuttle grabbed 8 rebounds. It was an another aggressive night for senior captain Ellie Bies who scrapped all night long and provided much needed leadership throughout the game. The 4-0 Falcons stay on the road this Friday and travel to Wayland. Tip 7pm. Go West!

The West Catholic girls basketball team had a home game Tuesday night against visiting the East Grand Rapids Pioneers. The Falcons were able to grind out a 49-41 win and improve to 3-0 on the young season. Elisha Dykstra was 7-8 from the free throw line and finished with a team high 12 points. Cadence Dykstra added 11 points in the win. Next up for the Falcons will be a road game at Muskegon next Tuesday night. Tip off 7pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 68 - 26
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Portland to take on Portland St. Patrick Friday night in non conference action. The Falcons led 14-13 after a fast paced first quarter. Paige Seely-London provided a second quarter spark knocking down three 3 pointers on her way to 11 points and the Falcons extended their lead to 27-19 at the half. West Catholic turned up their defensive intensity in the third quarter holding the host Shamrocks to just 4 third quarter points. As a group Ellie Bies, Emma Tuttle, Karlie Kurlenda and Grace Nyeholt had several rebounds and defensive plays that led to a 30 point third quarter for the Falcons. Junior Reese Polega had 4 of her 6 3 pointers in the third quarter on her way to a game high 20 points. Cadence Dykstra had 11 points for West Catholic and Ellie Bies and Elisha Dykstra both had 8 points in the 68-26 victory. Next the 2-0 Falcons will play East Grand Rapids on Tuesday at West Catholic. Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Hudsonville High School

Falcons Win: 55 - 50
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened the 2022-2023 season at home against the Hudsonville Eagles from the OK White Conference. The Falcons had balanced scoring in the first quarter, as four players scored, led by Elisha Dykstra%u2019s 8 points as West led 20-17 at the end of the high scoring first quarter. Both teams struggled to find offense in the second quarter and West led 29-25 at the half. Hudsonville had a strong start to the third quarter and took a 33-32 lead with 4:41 to go in the quarter but the Falcons had some key defensive sequences and went on a 11-2 run to close out the quarter and took a 43-35 lead into the fourth quarter. Senior Cadence Dykstra had a strong second half and scored 13 of her game high 21 points to help lead the Falcons to a 55-50 victory. West was 7/9 from the free throw line in the final quarter which helped prevent any Hudsonville comeback.
