The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Portland to take on Portland St. Patrick Friday night in non conference action. The Falcons led 14-13 after a fast paced first quarter. Paige Seely-London provided a second quarter spark knocking down three 3 pointers on her way to 11 points and the Falcons extended their lead to 27-19 at the half. West Catholic turned up their defensive intensity in the third quarter holding the host Shamrocks to just 4 third quarter points. As a group Ellie Bies, Emma Tuttle, Karlie Kurlenda and Grace Nyeholt had several rebounds and defensive plays that led to a 30 point third quarter for the Falcons. Junior Reese Polega had 4 of her 6 3 pointers in the third quarter on her way to a game high 20 points. Cadence Dykstra had 11 points for West Catholic and Ellie Bies and Elisha Dykstra both had 8 points in the 68-26 victory. Next the 2-0 Falcons will play East Grand Rapids on Tuesday at West Catholic.
