Duba qualifies for State Meet at Regional!

Falcons Lose: -
Outstanding describes the seven performances by the girls varsity runners Saturday. Six of the seven ran their fastest times ever (PR's), and Sophomore Maggie Duba raced a PR of 19:56, medaling in 13th and earning a spot on the starting line at next Saturday's State Competition!  Ali Junewick held her own, placing 26th while running injured, missing out on a last PR by only one second. Finishing side by side next to Ali was Nathalie Strockis, (27th), beating her best time by 22 seconds in 21:04! Racing an incredible PR by taking 40 seconds off her best was Lainey Roth (36), with a 21:45. Ending their high school cross country careers on a high note were seniors Hope Thome and Grace McCartney with PR's of 22:09 and 22:49 respectively! Wrapping up the varsity race in no slow fashion was Maggie McKiever, also PRing with a 22:55! Amen to a wonderful season and pulling up to 5th place in the Region Ladies! In JV action, the girls raced strong, with both Abbys (Needham and Nawrocki) racing their season's best time, and Leah O' Rourke earning a PR through a very strong finish! The lady harriers worked hard all season, and are looking forward to some well deserved rest! Great job, girls!

Five Personal Records, six season bests, one conference medalist, one All Conference Team, and one All Conference Honorable Mention runner sums up the way the Lady Falcon Harriers attacked the Spring Lake cross country course for the OK Blue Conference championship meet! Peaking at the right time, 11/15 runners had their best time of the season! Sophomore Maggie Duba raced a 20:03.9 PR to take 9th place overall and earn a spot on the All Conference Team! Freshman Ali Junewick, running injured, managed to hang in there and come in second on the team, 22nd overall, and hold on to All Conference Honorable Mention honors! Third on the team, Freshman Nathalie Strockis raced another incredible PR of 21:26.54, taking 23rd just behind Ali, while Freshman Lainey Roth was number four for West with a 22:37.  Working together were Senior Hope Thome, fifth on team, with a season best of 23:00.09, and missing a PR by two seconds (23:00.71), directly behind Hope, was Freshman Maggie McKeiver, #6 on the team, and then with a spectacular PR by 42 seconds was Sr. Grace McCartney, running a 23:03.17! Returning after a long absence from injury and racing her best time of the season was Ellen Green, and also racing season best times were Lauren Gutierrez, Abby Nawrocki, Eve Bacon, and Abby Needham. Rounding out the Personal Bests were Aishlin Roth and Leah O'Rourke! Good job getting your mental game on, ladies!

Words cannot describe the personal successes the seven Lady Harriers experienced Saturday at the Portage Invitational. Racing as THE smallest team in D2, in a field of over 300 runners per race (7000 + at the race itself!), EVERY ONE of the girls earned their fastest time of the season, 5 of them PR's! To comprehend how fast they were, listed is the amount of time each girl took off of her previous fastest time: Maggie Duba: 74 seconds (PR), Nathalie Strockis: 45 seconds(PR), Hope Thome: 51 seconds, Lainey Roth: 95 seconds(PR), Maggie McKeiver: 70 seconds (PR), Julia Sanford: 88 seconds(PR), and Lauren Gutierrez: 100 seconds! Incredible day, Ladies, may your success continue through the end of the season!!

The Girls Cross Country team ran away with another Championship Trophy at the Fruitport Invitational Saturday, as well as six individual awards! Although they are the defending champions, it was exciting to see a new era of racers take over for West, as the top five scoring harriers were freshmen and a sophomore! Leading the Falcons was freshman Ali Junewick in second, followed by sophomore Maggie Duba in 4th, freshman Nathalie Strockis in 6th with a PR, freshman Lainey Roth in 11th with a PR, and freshman Maggie McKeiver in 12th with a PR! Also earning an award was Senior Grace McCartney in 13th. The sky is the limit, ladies! Great work!!!

The girls cross country team saw 3 runners finish with their best times of the season at the OK Blue Conference Jamboree #2 in Coopersville tonight. Maggie Duba, who finished first for the Lady Falcons, had a SR, as well as Eve Bacon. With a phenomenal PR, taking 53 seconds off her previous best, was freshman Maggie McKeiver, coming in 5th for the Falcons! The girls are primed and ready to defend their Championship title this Saturday at the Fruitport Invitational - let's go for it, ladies!

In stifling heat, racing a PR of 21:03, and beating over 115 other Freshman runners from over 36 teams, West Catholic's own Ali Junewick was the Freshman Champion at the Cougar Falcon Invitational this past Saturday! Close behind in 13th was Nathalie Strockis, followed by Maggie McKeiver in 33rd with a PR of 25:10, and Lainey Roth in 38th!   In the Varsity race, Maggie Duba came across first for the Falcons in 36th place, followed by Grace McCartney, Hope Thome, Julia Sanford with a PR of 26:25, Hannah Arends, Abby Nawrocki, and Lauren Gutierrez. The girls toughed it out, and are looking forward to their next Conference race this Wednesday in cooler conditions! Go for it, Lady Harriers!

It was a hot and muggy night at the first OK Blue Jamboree of 2019 at Riverside Park.  Running in varsity places one through seven for West were Ali Junewick, Maggie Duba, Nathalie Strockis, Hope Thome, Lainey Roth, Maggie McKeiver, and Julia Sanford. Five of those top 7 are newcomers to the team, helping the team to place fifth in their first conference meet! The girls next competition will be the Cougar Falcon Invitational on Saturday, September 21. Keep at it Lady Harriers!

Congratulations to the Girls Cross Country team on winning the Coach "B" Invitational at Gun Lake on Monday! Scoring for the Lady Harriers were Freshman Ali Junewick, placing second, followed by Sophomore Maggie Duba (5th), Freshman Nathalie Strockis (6th), Seniors Grace McCartney (13th - PR), and Hope Thome (16th). Also finishing on varsity were two more freshman: Lainey Roth (21st) and Maggie McKeiver (26th)! Looking forward to a fabulous racing season with such a young and strong team!!!

The Girls placed second at a fun 2 mile course Wednesday at Lightning Bend Park in Belding, against Sparta (1st place) and Belding (3rd). Running 1st through 7th varsity were: Ali Junewick, Maggie Duba, Nathalie Strockis, Grace McCartney, Maggie McKeiver, Hope Thome, and Hannah Arends.With two seniors, two sophomores, and three freshmen running varsity, the young team is looking extremely strong! Every runner on the team beat their goal time or last year's time, so looking to have a great season!

The Girls Cross Country team had a great day at the Michigan Catholic Invitational in DeWitt Saturday. Most returning runners began the season with improved times over last year in the Varsity and JV races. First for West  in 21st place was Sophomore Maggie Duba (21:58), and taking almost 2 minutes off last years time in 51st place was Grace McCartney! Rounding out the Varsity team was Ellen Green, Hope Thome, Abby Nawrocki, and Lauren Gutierrez. Looking Strong in the JV race was Eve Bacon, Leah O'Rourke, and Abby Needham - who took almost a minute off of last years time! Shoutout to our new runners who WON the Freshman/First year 2 mile race!, and the Freshman Four who placed 1-2-4-5!!! The Gold medal went to a West Catholic Freshman for the third year in a row: Ali Junewick raced and incredible 13:14! Silver medal honors went to Nathalie Strockis (14:53), fourth overall was Maggie McKiever (15:05), and just after in 5th was Lainey Roth (15:22)! Also placing up front was Aishlin Roth in 15th (17:07) and Julia Sanford in 25th 917:44) Keep up the strong teamwork Ladies!
