The West Catholic Wrestling team traveled to Kenowa Hills to participate in the first team dual of the season.

The falcons first faced off against the Cougars of Catholic Central in the OK Blue Conference.   While West had many solid wins including Jake Bozek, Andrew Kasprik Thomas Zielinski & Jared Scully, the team was not able to pull out a win & fell to the Cougars.

The second match of the night was against Kenowa Hills in the OK Black Conference.   The Falcons were not able to get the momentum needed to get the win.

Saturday Dec 9 2018

West Catholic Falcons traveled to Big Rapids to grapple in the 2018 Big Rapids Cardinal Wrestling Invitational.   The Falcons were able to capture three team wins from Hopkins, Lakeview & Big Rapids, while taking the losses from Evart & Hastings.

Individually two Falcons went undefeated for the day & earned the Outstanding Wrestler awards.  Both  Josh Hernandez (119#) & Jake Bozek (160#) won all of their matches by pin!  Great job guys!

The West Catholic Wrestling Team traveled to Climax-Scotts High School to earn success in the Jim Wade Family Classic Tournament.  Many of the Falcons placed and earned medals in the tournament, but junior, Jake Bozek was the only Falcon to take home the championship in the tough 152# weight bracket.

Team mates taking home a 3rd place medal were Thomas Zielinski (103#), Andrew Kasparek (135#) & Andy Barksdale (Hwt).   Jake Willsea (140#), Jared Scully (160#) & Vince Mauric (Hwt) all finished at 5th place and rounding out their brackets with 6th place finishes were Jack Mauric (160#) & Michael Kane (171#).

Overall the team placed 5th out of 13 teams & showed great improvement from the previous season!

Keep up the good work guys !  GO FALCONS!

Wrestlers Compete in Dunneback Touranment

Sixteen teams participated in the David D. Dunneback Memorial Tournament at West Catholic on Saturday, January 12th.   Four of our West Catholic Falcons earned medals in the competition.   Freshman, Thomas Zielinski & junior, Jake Bozek placed 3rd in their brackets, while junior Andrew Kasparek & sophomore Cole VanDyke both placed 6th.   Way to go Falcons!

The West Catholic Wrestling Team started the new year off with some big matches. 

Thursday, January 3 2019

The Falcons faced Reeths-Puffer & Union High School at West Catholic.   The Falcons faced a tough Reeths-Puffer team and fell 6-63 with Freshman Caleb Haskell (112#) earning the lone 6 points for the team when he pinned his opponent!   

The last match of the night was against our westside neighbor Union High School.   The Falcons were able to pull out a victory of 41-27 over Union.

Saturday, January 5 2019

The wrestling team participated in a team tournament at Holton High School.   First round against Jenison High School was a tough loss of 4-72 with Freshman, Thomas Zielinski (103#) scoring for the team.  Second round, the Falcons faced an aggressive Grandville team and fell 6-64 with Junior, Jake Bozek (152#) earning the six points for the team with a pin.   The third round in the pool was  against Montague.   The WC Wrestlers were getting warmed up and won the round with an impressive  39-18 victory over Montague.   After a short break the guys were back at it for two more rounds.   First facing Mason County Central, but not able to pull out a win and fell 22-39.   The final match of the day was against the tournament host, Holton.   The Falcons were able to grab the win 48-30 over the Red Devils.     

Wrestlers who earned wins during the day were Vince Mauric, Jack Mauric, Jared Scully, Andras Palmer, Jake Willsea, Andrew Kasparek & Caleb Haskell.   Jake Bozek & Thomas Zielinski earned outstanding wrestler medals for finishing the day with 4-1 records!

Great job to all of our wrestlers!  Keep up the good work!
