Cold and rain greeted West Catholic for their pre-regional meet at Allendale! Only 5 guys ran Friday,so the objective was putting in their best effort and race of the season! Simon Plum lead the boys, getting a 19:17, an impressive 33 second personal best! He has had his sights on 19:30 for a while now, so the coaches were excited for him to get that the final race of the season! Matt Bouwhuis also had a big day, matching Simon with a 33 second personal record! Matt ran with purpose, and an effort to finish strong! Matt will be one of the veterans of the team next year, and hopes he can use this race as a building block for next year! Caleb Huizenga started the season with a 24:30 and finished Friday with a 21:06, best time of the season! Caleb has shown the commitment and drive to beat his time from the previous race and with that has been a great addition to the team! He will be a part of the senior leadership for next year! Caleb Levanduski ran a 23:30 and even though it was slower than he would have liked, he has also been someone on the team with a focus and drive! He has a lot of potential and coaches are excited to see where he goes in the sport! Finishing off the race was Brandon Petersen who had his best PR of the season with a 24:02, a minute and ten seconds faster! Brandon has a no quit attitude and a good effort at the end of each race! If he sticks with it, he is going to be a great contribution to the team next year at the varsity level! From all that has gone on this year, it was great to have a full season and for the most part, full health! For Kolbe and Jack who who couldn't run Friday, they would have surely put up good performances because we know the work they put in this season! In an unusual situation Saturday, Simon and Caleb Levanduski (2 5k's in 2 days?!?!), chose to toe the line again with Quinton Bauer at the Last Chance meet Saturday. After completing his soccer season, Quinton not only PR'd with an incredible 18:05!, but he won the meet! Simon somehow managed only one second slower after PR'ing the day before, and Caleb decided he will not choose to race two days in a row ever again! A majority of the team has just started their running career at West, so a lot of big things are still to come! Good job this weekend boys! Good way to finish the season!

What a race for the Falcons at Spring Lake for their final conference race of the season! Congratulations to Kolbe Mills on getting All-Conference Honors today! He has been working towards it all season and achieved it from what he put into training and his mindset throughout the races! Both of the Calebs had big personal record days as well! Caleb Huizenga took 22 seconds off his time, while Caleb Levanduski took a minute and twenty seconds off his best! Simon Plum, Matt Bouwhuis, and Brandon Petersen also were within seconds of their season records! The boys have shown significant improvement since the first race in August! Consistency has been a characteristic of this season, from consistent effort put into races to consistent improvements from the last races! The goal for the team now is to leave it all out on the course Friday at the Pre- Regional race, and no matter what, have a strong finish for the season!

On a challenging course with steep, sandy Jeeping trails, the boys varsity cross country team finished the hard race as a primer for their final upcoming end of season races. Everyone gave full effort, even knowing their team's top runners were absent from the scoring Saturday. Notable performances were run by Matt Bouwhuis and Brandon Petersen, who raced impressively decent times considering the level of difficulty of the course! The guys will continue to train hard heading into the conference final and Pre-regional meets in two weeks! Keep up the momentum boys!

Another PR filled day on Tuesday for the OK Blue Conference Race at Allendale! Kolbe Mills took 7th in the race and ran an imprssive 17:02 for his best official high school time! As captain of the team, Kolbe has put in the work and led by that example, so for him to hitting his season records the last races has been awesome to see! Simon Plum also beat his best time by three seconds for a a time of 19:50 and Jack VandeGuchte beat his best by ten seconds for a time of 20:20! Caleb Levanduski hit his goal time with a 22:45 for a 30 second PR! Brandon Petersen fought hard to the end taking a minute off his best with a 25:11! The team keeps chipping off their times and improving race to race! For the guys who are still eyeing that goal time, we're going to have a hard course at Pentwater that will definitely require the right mindset and mental strength to finish! Hopefully that will build the team up for the last conference race and come pre-regionals! We know they can do it! Good race guys!

On a day where the crisp fall air was starting to come into effect, the West Catholic cross country had a successful meet at Fruitport! The boys team had a score of 68 getting 3rd place! Kolbe Mills took 2nd place, Quinton Bauer took 9th place, and Simon Plum took 15th place all earning top 20 finish awards! Simon Plum hit his personal record as well taking five seconds off with a 19:53! Shout out to Quinton for running right before his varsity soccer game! Jack VandeGuchte and Matt Bouwhuis did a good job of closing the gaps on the competition and sticking with each other the duration of the race! Jack had a time of a 21:09 and Matt with a 21:19! Elisha Fedisoni had a goal time of 22 minutes exact and he seemed to manifest that today hitting that time exactly! Caleb Huizenga had the best improvement of the team today! He ran a 21:47, his previous best was a 23:23! That's a significant improvement from his PR and more than 2 minutes faster the last time we ran at Fruitport ten days ago! Caleb Levanduski took more than a minute off his time with a 23:16 while Brandon Petersen took ten seconds off his goal! It was a successful day not just from the team taking home awards, but from everyone hitting their goal times or close to them! The team is going into the Allendale Conference Jamboree on Tuesday with more confidence and a better understanding of how to run their race! Good race boys!

Gainey Field was the spot for the Cougar Falcon Invitational Saturday. A noon time frame for the race, the boys cross country team was battle tested due to the heat. Congrats to Kolbe Mills for getting his season record of 17:23!, taking 10th place earning himself a medal! Caleb Huizenga also earned a personal record today, with a 23:23! He fought hard all the last straightaway to achieve his goal time! The team looks to shake off the last tough couple of meets for a full week of practices and training for the Fruitport Invitational on October 3rd!

West Catholic Cross Country competed at Fruitport for their first race against their conference opponents. With the changed conference this year, it was going to be intriguing to see how the team stacked up against the newer teams.  The guys took 7th edging out Coopersville. The guys had their goal times, didn't all hit them, but it didn't come from a lack of effort or lack of of desire to want to be better. The style of the course just was not in favor for a majority of runners, so it didn't all result in a personal best. Kolbe Mills took 9th in the race and ran a 17:58! Simon Plum ran his personal best beating it by one second! Caleb Levanduski also hit his goal time and more running a 24:13, more than a minute and a half off his previous personal best! That's a large improvement! Its going to be a quick turnaround to the next meet on Saturday at Gainey Field. The meet today is definitely a building block to improve on for some of the team disappointed in their times! They're going to use it as motivation, see what they have to do different in their pacing, and try to really have a day on Saturday! The coaches know they have it in them from the work and hours they have already put in! Keep it Up Guys!

It was a perfect day for running as West Catholic Cross Country competed for a dual meet against Grand Rapids Track Club, on their home turf at Riverside Park. Kolbe Mills ran for first place overall running an 18:14! He did a good job of pushing his teammates and getting ahead in the beginning and finishing with a good pace! Simon Plum followed right with him taking 4th overall running with a time of 19:58! He got his personal record with that time taking 23 seconds off his best! Jack VandeGuchte ran a 20:32 and did a good job running hard the last stretch of the race taking 5th overall! Matt Bouwhuis ran a 21:57 and had a good stride  as he raced a GR track runner to the finish! Caleb Huizenga had his best race of the season running a 23:36, 54 seconds faster than his personal record! Caleb Levanduski did it too, running a 25:55 almost a minute faster than his best! Brandon Petersen finished off the race on a strong note running a 26:09 which is more than a minute off his personal best! The guys may not have won the meet as a whole team, but it was nothing to be sad about with all the personal records and strong finishes! It was definitely an improvement from the previous race, and it hopefully can be carried to the next big conference race at Fruitport! Good work guys!

West Catholic cross country competed in the Kenowa Hills 5 Way against Northview, Comstock Park, Kenowa Hills, and Sparta today. The boys had 7 compete in the varsity race together. For a large part of the team, this was their first official 5k as a Falcon. With the wind being a significant factor today, it made it tougher to run with the openness of the course, but it wasn't something the team was going to back down from! Kolbe Mills ran a 17:30 while getting second place! Simon Plum ran a 20:21, which is a great start for his first 5k race! Jack Vandegutche ran a 20:57, and Matt Bouwhuis ran a 21:57, both of them having good first mile splits and good finishes at the end! Caleb Huizinga also had a strong finish, striding until the end running a 24:30! Caleb Levanduski ran a 26:44 helping his teammate Brandon Petersen run a 27:05, both of them pushing each other to the finish line! This meet was definitely a team builder with the new guys getting their first 5k under their belt and seeing how the team can compete in non- ideal conditions! They are going to follow this meet with a good, hard week of practice to prepare for their next meet on the14th!

First Race in the Books!           The West Catholic cross country team competed in their first race of the 2020 season with a 2 mile race at Belding. With the news of football, and some of the other sports still on a delay, the team was excited to be one of the first sports to compete and represent the school! The boys side welcomes five new runners to the team including four freshmen. In his senior season captain, Kolbe Mills ran a 10:34 and took 3rd place in the meet! Freshmen Simon Plum took 11th in the meet with a time of 12:31, and Jack VandeGuchte followed right behind him with a time of 12:42 in 13th place! Sophomore Matthew Bowhuis ran a 13:20, beating his personal best at this race last year! In his first season of running cross, Caleb Huizenga came through with a time of 14:32! Following Caleb was Caleb Levanduski with a time of 15:35 and Brandon Petersen with a time of 16:32! The heat was very evident at the meet today, but it didn't affect them much due to the many tempo runs and hill workouts done throughout the summer! The team was ready to hit the ground running and get this season kicked off! Good Job Guys!
