West Catholic wrestler, Jake Bozek traveled to Ford Field in Detroit to compete in the MHSAA Individual Wrestling Tournament. Wrestlers who are able to qualify for the tournament are the top 16 wrestlers in their weight class and division for the state of Michigan. Jake competed in the 152# weight class and competed against some of the toughest competition seen all year. While Jake was not able to capture the win this year, both matches were close with the second match allowing only one point scored against him.

(Pictured) Prior to leaving for the tournament on Thursday night, Father Steffes stopped by the wrestling room to bless Jake on his journey to the tournament.

Saturday February 16, 2019 two West Catholic Wrestlers participated in the Individual Regional Tournament held at Belding High School. Each weight class brought together the top 8 wrestlers in the districts to determine who will travel to the State Finals in two weeks.

Freshman, Thomas Zielinski wrestled hard in his 103# weight class but was defeated by Whitehall and Lakewood, both of which went on to earn a seat at the state tournament.

Junior, Jake Bozek went 3-1 for the day fighting hard on all four matches, one of which went into overtime. Jake was able to secure the take down earning the points needed to win the match. In the finals round Jake was matched against the same opponent. Jake took charge of the match & left no doubt in this match with a solid 8-1 victory!

Jake is the first WC wrestler to travel to the state tournament in 5 years! Jake will travel to Ford Field in Detroit on March 1^st to compete in the two day competition. Good Luck Jake! GO WEST!

Wrestling: Individual District Tournament

On Saturday, February 9, 2019, the West Catholic Wrestling Team traveled to Muskegon Orchard View to participate in the MHSAA Individual District Tournament. All of the Falcons were faced with some of the toughest competition in West Michigan and wrestled hard. Two Falcons took home a medal and earned a seat in the Regional Tournament.

Freshman, Thomas Zielinski placed 4^th in the 103# bracket & Junior, Jake Bozek earned a 3^rd place finish in the 152# bracket. Both wrestlers will be competing in the Regional Tournament next weekend at Belding High School.

Seniors, Michael Kane & Vince Mauric were one win away from making it into the medal round this year.
