District Finals

West and the Aviators were looking to come out champions on Saturday.
After lightning delay both teams finally took the field, West scored first and held the lead through the first half.
Aviators scored on a penalty awarded to them and tied the game. Game was close as both created opportunities until the Aviators scored in OT.
Unfortunately West could not score with some chances they created.
" It was unfortunate we feel short of being champs, we played well but at the end you have to score to win."
" Even though we fell short we achieved so much as a team and a program, I am proud of these boys."

Away vs Coopersville

West played an away game Saturday morning vs the Broncos. Both teams looking to improve there standings in the conference.
The Broncos were determined as they created more opportunities in the first half but both took the tie to halftime. Second half West came out determined to play as they were able to create opportunities. Noel was able to open the score with less than 12 minutes in the game.
West ended on top 1-0.
”We will continue to take this one game at a time and learn from our mistakes. Boys came out with a different attitude in the second half”.

The boys varsity soccer team turned in a successful day by winning the tournament. The team played well even with the heat and humidity, also showed great effort. First match the team faced against a very talented Fenville team. Match ended one zero with a goal scored by senior Noel Bangurambona. Second match was against the host team of Wayland. The game went back and forth until West was able to open the score. Game ended 3-1 in favor of West, goals from Noel Bangurambona, sophomore Quinton Bauer, and freshman Henry Ripple. Finals rival was against Fenville as they were coming from a big victory against Hastings. The game went back and forth until a foul was committed outside of the box with less then 10 minutes in the game. Senior Andrew James took the kick and scored a well placed goal against the Fenville keeper. That is all it took for West to raise the trophy at the end.

5-7pm, main field.
Arrive 15 minutes prior, bring cleats, indoor flat/gym shoes, plenty of water, and proper athletic apparel.
All student athletes that is interested in trying out please email name and grade to boyssoccer@grwestcatholic.org.
All participants must have physicals turned in at the latest 48 hours prior to tryouts.

Home game vs CC

Great atmosphere and great soccer was displayed today vs CC. West created opportunities in first half and made a goal, but unfortunately it was called offside. Second half CC came out determined to score, and was able to take an opportunity with less then 20 minutes in the game.
”We came out determined, but unfortunately they took advantage of it. These types of tight games it could of definitely went either way, and taking advantage of situations is key. I am proud of the group how they played against a talented and well coached team”.

West Catholic men's soccer coaching staff will be offering conditioning.
The following dates will be focused on soccer specific conditioning.
June 13th-15th, 18th-20th.
July 16th-18th, 27th, 30, & 31st.
5-7pm, main field.
Dates and location are subject to change.
Dates might be added, minimum of 8 participants per day.
Participants please email dates attending to boyssoccer@grwestcatholic.org
Please bring outdoor/indoor shoes, water, and proper athletic apparel.
Away vs Comstock Park

West visited Comstock Park to resume conference play. West played a solid second half scoring multiple goals what ended in a 9-1 win for the Falcons.
West will play a big conference game on Tuesday vs Catholic Central.

Saturday home game vs Muskegon

The boys soccer team came out to face Muskegon on a perfect day for soccer. Muskegon scored first on a hand ball of what resulted in a PK.
After some adjustments West never looked back, scoring 9 unanswered goals to end the game before regulation.
”We have to give Muskegon credit, playing with no subs they played hard” coach Cano said.
West will play another non conference game on Tuesday vs South Christian at home.
Second home match vs Spring Lake

Both teams came out determined to come out with a victory in conference play. Spring Lake played a high pressured game but West defensively played really well. Spring Lake had plenty of opportunities but Tyler Novasad helped keep the clean sheet. West had an opportunity to score towards the end of the game but the top post denied the shot by Andrew James.
” We played well defensively against a talented rival, we didn’t give up and left everything on the pitch. We will look at our mistakes and continue to work on things needed to improve” coach Cano said.
Next match is non conference game vs Muskegon Saturday at home.
First conference game

West played today vs Allendale after severe weather forced yesterday’s game to reschedule. Both teams came determined to win there first conference game. Allendale created opportunities until they did put one in the net for the 1-0 lead. West began to control the possession and was creating opportunities. A foul at the top of the 18 was enough to create an opportunity for Noel B to tie the game up. Both teams went back and forth but came up with the draw.
“We created opportunities, that was a good thing to see with us beginning our conference play” said coach Hugo.
Next game is away vs Sparta.
WC varsity soccer wins first home match.

The team took the field vs the Wellspring Wolves. West struck first with a nice center to sophomore Quinton Bauer that put the ball in the back of the net.
The second goal was scored by Noel Bangurambona before the end of the first half. The Wolves had a few opportunities but the defensive line worked well as did Tyler Novosad at keeper. Second half WC out possessed Wellspring while creating many opportunities to score. Game ended 6-1 in favor of WC with Noel having a good offensive showing this afternoon.
Also scoring was Abraham Miller and Andrew James.
“We will continue to work, we have our first conference game on a Tuesday. I am pleased with how we played in the second half” said coach Hugo.

On a cold evening West traveled to play CC in the last game of the season. West was determined to play there final season game vs a well coached and talented CC team.
CC opened the score with a questionable offside that was not called. West responded with a strong shot by Noel that the keeper could not hold.
West and CC went back and forth as both teams created great chances of scoring. Another questionable free kick opportunity gave the chance to CC, finding a header into the net.
"We played well despite the loss, the boys showed determination and did not give up. We will now focus on the districts."
West ended the year with an overall record of 11 wins, 6 losses, and 3 ties.
Conference record of 6 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties.

Boys Soccer 2nd Round District Game

Come out to West Catholic tomorrow evening to support out boys soccer team and they face off against Portland in the second round of districts.
Game time is scheduled for 5:30. Tickets are $6.00. No passes of any type will be accepted.

West Catholic mens soccer program is offering conditioning for student athletes interested in preparing for soccer tryouts. Who: Student athletes entering 9-12th grade. Dates June 3-4-5th, 10-11-12th, 17-18-19th. July 8-9-10th, 15-16-17th, 29-30-31st. Time: 6-7:30pm Location: West Catholic High school field.
