Girls Varsity and JV Cross Country-Cougar Falcon Invitational

1 year ago @ 10:18AM | Chase Boshoven
Game Date
Sep 24, 2022

Sometimes we have days where the right breakfast was eaten, shoes were tied right, and our breathing was on point! Seemed to be the case for the Cougar-Falcon Invitational at Gainey Field. A meet that has had extreme weather through the years, either raining all day or progressively hot. We took advantage of the plenty of competition and cooler temperatures to have great times all across the board. It is almost hard to go into each individual’s race performance for how well we did! So for the girls, we’ll just list off the personal records  and season records!

Varsity

Lily Lesarge- 20:33-PR

Lainey Roth-21:07-PR

Nathalie Strockis-22:23-SR

Abby Druelle- 23:03-SR

Audrey McKeiver-23:31-SR

Bree Hoffer-23:58-PR

Paige Clinger-23:59-PR

JV

Brenna Olewinski-24:13-PR

Amelia Adkins-24:29-PR

Ally Olszewski-25:05-PR

Who also raced close season bests were Claire Smith 23:27, merely a second off it,  and Liz Richmond, only four seconds off it! And one of our captains, Maggie McKeiver, still racing through an injury, hit a season record of 25:22, and we just have to commend her tenacity and effort through it. She has been doing everything right at practice to get back to that usual form!

The girls were focused, and it showed in their warm ups all the way through the race! We have individual goals and big team goals that feel even more attainable after a good showing Saturday! As Coach Duba says it best, “we should be peaking mid season” and building up after that. It is basically mid-season and seeing a race like that excites both coaches on what is to come! So this week brings one race on Saturday, the Fruitport Invitational. This course is fresh in our minds. We just ran our first conference race there. There should be no reason why we all can’t improve our times from the last one there! A full week of practice, with only one race, a familiar course coming up, off the heels of a great Saturday, feels like a recipe for success!

What the rest of the season looks like is each practice is important, not only for keeping our fitness up, but staying healthy! We can have meets like we did on Saturday every time, if we don’t underestimate our workout days, easy days, stretching, and other core and racing routines. It is all significant to our success as a runner! It requires us to remain focused and never lose sight of what we set out to do at the beginning of the season! But we’ll celebrate our team’s great work and hope to keep it going!
