It was a tough week of practice with the humidity and our team was challenged even on our easy run days.

With cooler temperatures for the Catholic Invitational in DeWitt our team was feeling even more ready to get in the first 5k of the season!

For the girls and guys teams in varsity today, we had awesome team work with some notable individual performances on the day!

Lily Lesarge one of our senior leaders earned a Top 20 finish medal (21:34)! She earned it by fighting her way though the front of packs and never getting complacent! Brenna Olewinski nabbed a PR (24:09) which is a great start to her senior season! Not too far behind her was Katherine Klooster (24:14) and Audrey Mckeiver (24:20)! Audrey took a minute off her time from this race last year! Finishing it off was Bree Hoffer who fought hard to finish it for varsity (27:52)!

Our boys race 2nd this year so they cheer on the girls as they get prepped for their own race!

Charles Brooks had a good day starting his season  off with an (18:35)! He is a runner who uses his strength to his advantage, getting involved with the faster groups to carry him along! Tim O’Brien was second for varsity and he crushed his time he ran this meet last year. He ran a (19:35) which is big for him to get into the 19s early. Starting off strong! Next was Evan Murphy (21:40) and Frankie Pelak (21:45)! Frankie beat his goal time on the day, and even if we don’t have a PR, hitting the goal we set out for helps to keep on track at the longer view of the season!

And working together for the last couple for varsity was Noah Ysasi (25:22) and Cole Molloseau (25:24)! The two of them worked in unison and ran together for the entire race. This was Cole’s first 5k for the team as he comes from the track team! A good first effort and those two worked well together!

We’re a team that’s built on determination, grit, and attitude. No matter what level we are at, which race we’re in, how many we have at the start line, our team applies these types of traits. Even it’s not the most spectacular practices for the week or the course is not in our favor, you can see it on our faces we want to compete, and strive to improve upon the last time!

We’re also a very tight knit group. That will come in handy when we need to push each other in races where it counts! It’s always much easier to PR when you have your teammate trying to do the same thing. This was a great start to a long season ahead of us. The coaches know we are built for it though!

Our next races will come after Labor Day! Go West!
