25-2! It was a matchup of #1 and #2 in the MHSAA Division 2 Finals when the West Catholic girls varsity basketball team faced Detroit Edison Saturday night at The Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State University and the game did not disappoint. In a fast paced first quarter the Falcons led 19-18 on a buzzer beating shot from Ellie Bies. West continued to hang tough with Edison in the first half behind 19 first half points from senior Abbey Kimball and trailed at the half for the first time all season 30-34. The Falcons showed no quit in the second half, however they did not have enough in the end to knock off Edison in the Division 2 Championship game falling 73-55 and finishing as the Division 2 runner up. Cadence Dykstra had a strong post season running the offense and leading an aggressive defense and had 9 points and 6 assists in the Finals. Emma Tuttle had 9 rebounds and Michigan State committ Abbey Kimball led the Falcons with 26 points. Congratulations to Abbey Kimball, Elisha Dykstra, Anna Ignatoski, Becca Tuttle, Ellie Bies, Emma Tuttle, Grace Nyeholt, Paige Seely-London, Karlie Kurlenda, Cadence Dykstra, Reese Polega, together as one, the West Catholic girls varsity basketball team finished the 2021-2022 season at 25-2 (14-0 OK Blue Conference Champions) and as MHSAA Division 2 runner up. Go West!
