Every cross country season, there is always that one meet where everyone hits their marks. It seems to break open the season where a majority of us hit goals the rest of the way. The momentum comes on our side. Hopefully Saturday was that meet because the team hit a lot of their goals in a big way. Our invitational at Gainey Field usually means hot or rainy, but this one was right on point to make it a great running day. Five of the boys ran for the varsity race, while Evan Murphy, Tim O’Brien, and Charles Brooks ran the freshman race. The varsity race started first where each of our runners hit their season’s best! Randall Kado (22:59) and August Christensen (21:46) ran their fastest race for their cross careers! Caleb Huizienga, Matt Bouwhuis and August all ran together as a group well, so even when they were away from competition, they had someone to keep up with. Jack had to deal with some adversity coming off being sick and even getting stung by a bee after the second mile! He still had a season record so a bee wouldn’t prevent him from doing that! Evan Murphy fought through a cough as well! Not that we use it as an excuse, he still ran a good race through the circumstances! Tim O’brien earned a 48 second PR with a time of 22:08! Charles Brooks was the fastest for varsity even being in the freshman race with a 20:45 PR! Nice racing Charles! We are halfway through the season, varsity is getting back to usual form and the first time runners are figuring the racing thing out! Only one meet this week, at Fruitport, so we'll have more relaxed days and team activities to keep building the team up on and off the course! Way to represent Saturday West!
