In the second game of the weekend at the Trenton Showcase, the Grand Rapids West Catholic Co-Op hockey team again showed a ton of grit and determination throughout the game. Heading into the game the team had seven forwards, three defenseman, and no goalie available from any of the combined schools which make up the team.  The decision was made before the game to call the game a scrimmage and not a game which allowed the team to use one of the backup goalies from Utica Eisenhower and allowed the teams to play the game. There were no goals in the first period and in the second period WC Co-Op scored first, on the power-play, with Ashton Bol passing the puck down to Jake Noordewier, who then found Brendan Hofmann on the back door with a one time shot to beat the goalie. Utica responded with a goal of their own. Later in the second, Ashton Bol made a long stretch pass to Brendan Hofmann, who entered the zone and found Venckus hitting him back door to regain the lead. Once again Utica responded to tie the game up.  Shots on goal were 16 to 3 in favor of Utica in the second period as the team seemed to wear down.  In the third period, Bol shot the puck and Isaiah Clark scored off of a scramble in front of the net. And that’s how the game ended, as the team killed a couple of penalties late in the third and hung on to the lead. The win does not go onto the team's record since it is a scrimmage which keeps the teams record at 8-11-1-2 overall and 4-3 in conference.  The team ended the game with nine skaters. A normal roster would have 20 players.  Congrats on a great effort this weekend. The next game is Thursday night at Patterson against Forest Hills Central.
