The West Catholic JV softball team opened the 2019 season at Byron Center on Monday. The game, originally scheduled to be a home game at West Catholic, had to be moved to Byron Center due to field conditions. It was great to be able to get outside and play on a real field versus the gym where practices had been being held. Abby Nawrocki started in the circle for WC against a talented Byron Center offense.
It took an inning to get the winter rust shaken off defensively, but after giving up some runs in the first inning, West shut down Byron Center in the 2nd and 3rd innings, allowing only 1 hit and no runs.
The offensive rust seemed to hang on a bit longer. Hannah Nelson was able to score in the first inning off from a Jayden Sprank single to left field which was the only run West was able to produce during this contest. West Catholic fell to Byron Center 20-1 in 5 innings.
The next game is a double-header on Tuesday, April 9 at home against OK Blue opponent Allendale. The game starts at 4:00PM.
