Girls Freshman Basketball vs. Allendale High School

Falcons Win: 27 - 25
The Freshman Falcons closed out their season with a 27-25 thrilling victory over the host Allendale Falcons. West Catholic battled shooting woes while Allendale capitalized on defensive mistakes to build leads as large as 10 points. However, in the fourth quarter, West battled back, led by Ellen Green's shooting and a strong defensive team effort. Sydney Wildman knocked down two key free throws with 10 seconds left to tie the score up. Green scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter, including nailing two free throws to finally give West the lead in the last 2.7 seconds of the game.

Falcons Win: 49 - 34
The Freshmen Falcons avenged an earlier loss to the Spring Lake Lakers with a strong 49-34 win. The Falcons were in control much of the game, with consistent double digit leads. The Lakers, though, hit some well-timed shots to prevent the Falcons from getting comfortable. West Catholic slowed the game down and controlled the final minutes of the game to seal the win. The Falcons were led in scoring by Izzy Spicer (12), Katie Clifford (10) and Ellen Green (8).

Falcons Lose: 31 - 33
The Freshmen Falcons lost a heartbreaker to a tough Unity Christian team, 31-33. The Falcons battled from behind most of the game, trailing by 9 at the most. Down 8 in the last 3 minutes, the Falcons closed the deficit to just 1 point in the final 5 seconds in the game, thanks to two Izzy Spicer free throws. The Unity Christian team was able to draw a foul and increase the lead and the Falcons ran out of time as the buzzer sounded with a 2 point deficit still remaining. The Falcons were led in scoring by Katie Clifford (14) and Ellen Green (9). The Falcons will finish their season next week, visiting conference foes Spring Lake and Allendale.

Falcons Win: 32 - 26
The Freshmen Falcons finished out their last home game of the season with a 32-26 win over the visiting Fremont Packers. The Falcons controlled the score for much of the game with a double digit lead. The Packers surged back on the efforts of their press in the final minutes, but the Falcons were able to hold off the charge with controlled possession. The Falcons were led in scoring by Katie Clifford (15) and Izzy Spicer (7). The Falcons will hit the road for their final 3 games, beginning with Unity Christian on Thursday at 5:00pm.

Falcons Win: 22 - 20
The visiting Cougars traveled to the "west side of the valley" to battle the Freshmen Falcons once again. It was a close defensive battle throughout, with neither team leading by more than 4 points at a time. The Falcons took a 3 point lead into the 4th quarter, only to see it diminish as the Cougars pulled ahead 2 in the last 2 minutes of the game. The Falcons were down 20-19 in the last minute when Sydney Wildman sank a 3 to put the Falcons ahead 2. The Cougars had a chance to tie it up with free throws in the last second of the game, but were unsuccessful. The Falcons had a balanced scoring attack, with 7 players notching points in the game.

Falcons Lose: 19 - 30
The Freshmen Falcons traveled to Coopersville for their second matchup with the Broncos, hoping to avenge their previous loss. However, shooting woes plagued the Falcons. The team kept the score close through the third, down 14-12 going into the 4th quarter. However, the Broncos capitalized on some key Falcon turnovers to open and maintain their lead. The Falcons lost 30-19. They were led in scoring by Ellen Green (6) and Katie Clifford (5). The Falcons play next at home against rival Catholic Central.

Falcons Win: 30 - 28
The Freshmen Falcons notched their first rivalry win tonight with a 30-28 victory over the host Cougars. It was a thrilling game with neither team leading by more than 6 points. The Falcons stepped up to the Cougars pressure on defense and got to the free throw line 20 times. The team also held the Cougars to only 3 points in the 2nd quarter to take a lead into halftime. The Falcons were led in scoring by Ellen Green (11) and Jayden Sprank (10).

Falcons Lose: 29 - 36
The Freshmen Falcons suffered a 36-29 loss to the Coopersville Broncos. Tough, aggressive defense from the Broncos kept the Falcons from breaking double digits in the first half. The home team rallied in the third quarter, though, outscoring the Broncos 10-6, but offensive woes plagued the Falcons again in the 4th. West was led in scoring by Katie Clifford (7) and Ellen Green (6), while the Broncos were led by 12 points from Haley Huckleberry. The Falcons travel across the river for their next contest, battling the Cougars from Catholic Central/

Falcons Win: 57 - 26
The Freshmen Falcons opened up the new year with a strong 57-26 win over the visiting Delton-Kellogg. After a slow start, the team jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and never relinquished. In another balanced attack, the Falcons were again led in scoring by Katie Clifford (17), Jayden Sprank (10), and Ashley Richmond (7). The team will open up league play next week.

Falcons Win: 58 - 6
The Freshman Falcons closed out the 2017 portion of their campaign with a commanding 58-6 win over the visiting NorthPointe Christian Squad. The Falcons were balanced in scoring, led by Katie Clifford (10), Izzy Spicer (10), Jayden Sprank (8), and Sydney Wildman (8).The Falcons also totaled 15 steals in the game. The Freshman Falcons will return to the court in the new year on January 4.

Falcons Win: 40 - 28
The Freshman Falcons improved their record to 3-1 as they beat a tough Forest Hills Northern squad 40-28. Both teams ran the floor well, but it came down to a defensive effort and offensive efficiency to help the Falcons build and stretch their lead over the host Huskies. In another well-balanced attack, Katie Clifford lead the team with 15 points.

The Freshman Falcons bounced back from their loss to post a strong 44-18 win over the Greenville Yellowjackets. The Falcons outpaced the visiting Yellowjackets in each quarter. Katie Clifford led the team in scoring with 16 points, and Hailey Siwek chipped in 11. Lizzie Pope pulled down 7 rebounds and Sydney Wildman dished out 3 assists in the well-balanced attack. The Falcons will visit Forest Hills Northern on Thursday.

Falcons Lose: 18 - 24
The Freshman Falcons suffered a tough loss to Cedar Springs, losing 24-18. In a frustrating but hard-fought defensive battle, the Falcons struggled to find the bottom of the net. Katie Clifford led the team with 9 points. The Falcons will return to the court 12/12 and will take on the Greenville Yellow jackets.

The West Catholic Freshmen Falcons opened their season with a decisive victory over the host Northview Wildcats. The Falcons led the entire game and finished with a 43-10 score. Every player scored for the Falcons in the balanced attack, with Hailey Siwek leading the team with 8 points.
