The hockey team beat Jenison 7-1 in their playoff game to advance to the Regional Final. Hayden Zimmerman opened the scoring three minutes into the game, beating the goalie over his glove. Danny Groszkiewicz and Matthew Ydenberg assisted on the goal. Zimmerman scored a minute into second period with assists going to Ydenberg and Colin Peal. Ben Baysore scored, deflecting a shot from Zimmerman on the powerplay. Isaiah Clark collected an assist on the play. Baysore added a second goal off a pretty play in which he picked up a pass from Colton Laufer off his skate and one-timed the pass over the goalie's glove. Sam Van Schepen started the play with a great cross-ice pass to Laufer. Zimmerman scored his hat trick off a pass from Groszkiewicz from behind the net. Clark had the second assist. Zimmerman scored his fourth goal of the game in the third period off a great backdoor pass from Clark. Peal assisted on the play. To round out the scoring, Matthew Sweetland scored his first goal of the season with 25 seconds to go in the game. Cam Laufer and Peal assisted on the play. Logan Sutliff played well in the net to get the win. Next up is Grandville in the Regional Final. The game will be played at Griff's Georgetown Ice Arena on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

After beating Forest Hill Central 3-0 on Monday, the teams faced off again last night at Eagles Ice Center for Senior Night. In front of a packed house, the Eagles co-op beat FHC in overtime 3 -2. The hockey team went up 1-0 in the first period on a power-play goal from Sam VanSchepen. Matthew Ydenberg and Hayden Zimmerman assisted on the goal. FHC tied the game 1-1 in the second period. In the third, Isaiah Clark scored off a back door pass from Danny Groszkiewicz. Zimmerman also assisted on the goal. FHC tied it up with six minutes to go and the game headed into overtime. With 25 seconds to go in OT, Hayden Zimmerman scored an unassisted goal to get the win. Logan Sutliff played well in net, facing 24 shots. The final regular-season game is Saturday at 8:30 p.m. vs Forest Hills Northern at Patterson Ice Arena.

The hockey team played two state-ranked opponents this weekend but came up short in both games. Traverse City Bay Reps 3, GR Christian 1 - The Traverse City Bay Reps took a 1-0 lead in the second and went up by 3 in the third. The Eagles battled back to make it 3-1 and had chances to close the gap but were unable to beat the Bay Reps goalie. Danny Groskiewicz scored a rebound goal on the power play with assists going to Isaiah Clark and Hayden Zimmerman. Logan Sutliff played well in the game with 27 saves. Howell 6, GR Christian 2 - The Eagles had a slow start against #7 ranked Howell, going down 3-0 and then 4-1. Ben Baysore scored off a play from Hayden Zimmerman on the rush. Logan Eaton assisted on the play. Clark scored later in the first period to make it 4-2 off a pass from Zimmerman after he stole the puck in the neutral zone. Matthew Ydenberg was also credited with an assist on the goal. The Eagles were down 5-2 in the second period but responded with a goal from Sam VanSchepen. Josh VanSchepen made a pretty play, winning a race to the puck off a dump-in by Logan Eaton and then shielded off the defender and found Sam in the slot. In the third, the Eagles dominated the play, rarely allowing Howell out of their zone; however, Howell added an open net goal to ice the game.
