Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Manistee High School

Falcons Win: 13 - 2
Saturday night, West took on Manistee at Griffs Ice Arena.  West got off to a fast start as Max Goodfellow opened the scoring on an unassisted goal.  Adam Bocian would tap in a Max Goodfellow shot for the second goal of the game.  Ian Waldecker scored the 3rd goal of the game and the first one of his career.  West scored two power play goals to end the period after Manistee took a 5 minute penalty.  Goodfellow would add his second tally of the night with an assist going to Derrick Patterson.  Freshman Bryce Darrow would end the scoring in the first period as he banged home a rebound off of a Colin Jewell shot with a second assist going to Nathan Szyszko.   Score after one period of play was West 5, Manistee 0.  West scored 8 times in the second as Adam Bocian scored again, Sophomore Conner Oman scored twice, Goodfellow scored two more times, Tyler Messock, Derek Patterson, and Joel Kolenda scored as well.   Final score was West 13, Manistee 2.   Noah Herzhaft and Conner Julien split time in the net.  West improves to 3-3 on the season and will take on Jenison in a league game on Wednesday night at 8pm at Griffs Ice House.

Falcons Lose: 1 - 4
West took to the road on Saturday night to play the Capital City Capitals.   Capital City is a team comprised of four Lansing area schools, DeWitt, St. Johns, Lansing Catholic Central, and Mason.   The game was scoreless in the first until the Capitals scored a goal from the point to go up 1-0.   It stayed that way until 30 seconds left in the first when the Capitals scored a goal and then another with 10 seconds left in the period.  Score was 3-0 after one and the Capitals out shot West 16 to 1 in the period.  The Capitals struck again five minutes into the 2nd for a 4-0 lead.   The rest of the period remained scoreless and West found itself down 4-0 heading into the 3rd.   The Capitals took six consecutive penalties in the third and West got on the board when Joel Kolenda scored his first goal of the season assisted by Tyler Messock.  Despite being on the power play almost the entire period, West only managed to score the one goal.  Shots on goal for the game favored the Capitals 36 to 24.  Noah Herzhaft was in net for West and stopped 32 of 36 shots.   West fell to 2-3 on the season and will be in action again on December 8th at 7pm at Griffs Ice House when they take on the Manistee Chippewas.

Falcons Lose: 0 - 8
West faced off against Rockford in the championship game of the Thanksgiving weekend tournament at Griffs Ice House.   The game was scoreless until ten minutes in when Rockford found the back on the net on a 2-0 line rush.   Rockford would go on to score a power play goal late in the period for a 2-0 lead after 1.   Shots on net for the period favored Rockford at 14 to 4.   Rockford kept on rolling as they added another four goals in the 2nd period.  Rockford out shot West, 21 to 4 in the second.  The game ended six minutes into the 3rd period as Rockford scored their eighth goal of the game.  Noah Herzhaft was in net and stopped 39 of the 47 shots he faced.  West gave up three power play goals in the game.  
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Northview High School

Falcons Win: 2 - 1
West Catholic faced off against rival Northview in the first game of the Thanksgiving tournament at Griffs Ice House.  West came out of the gates strong and out shot Northview 12 to 1 in the first period, but could not capitalize on any scoring chances.  Northview scored half way into the 2nd period on a power play goal to take the lead 1 to 0.   Shots on net for the 2nd period favored West again at 15 to 10.   West got on the board in the 3rd period when Corbin Venckus scored a goal that was assisted by Derrick Patterson.   With three minutes left in the game, Tyler Messock passed the puck to Brendan Hofmann who beat a defensman wide and found David Hoving going to the net for the game winning power play goal.   West would have to kill off a penalty late in the game and went on to win their second game of the season.   Noah Herzhaft was in net for West and stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced.  West is now 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Conference play.  
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Mattawan High School

Falcons Win: 1 - 0
Three minutes into the first period, Corbin Venckus scored the lone goal of the game with an assist to Nathan Szyszko.   Mattawan out shot West Catholic in the first period 8 to 4.   Mattawan carried the play in the second period, but goalie Noah Herzhaft stood strong in net stopping all 12 shots in the period.   The third period saw back and forth action and West held on to get the win, 1 to 0.   Noah Herzhaft registered his first high school shut out, stopping all 38 shots on net.  Final shots on net for the contest were West 11, Mattawan 38.   Derrick Patterson, Conner Oman, and Bryce Darrow all saw their first action at the varsity hockey level.   Max Goodfellow, a forward on the squad, played the game at defense and helped secure the win.  Overall a great team effort for the first win of the season.
