Falcons Lose: 2 - 3
The Falcons traveled to Catholic Central for the final contest of the 2018 conference season last night. The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, but the Cougar serving and defense kept them alive in the set and they would take the first set 25-18. In the second set the Cougars started out with a slight 4-2 lead that they would hold to for the first half of set two, with a 15-12 lead. The Falcon defense stayed relentless and would take set two 25-22. Set three was no different as teams were back and forth point for point until the match was at 19-18 in favor of the Falcons, but a late service run would edge the Cougars and they took set three 25-19. Heading into set four, both teams were playing strong defense and finding any way to put the ball down on the opposing sides of the court. The Falcons had a 20-15 lead, but the Cougars kept fighting back and would tie up the set 20-20. With some great defense and big time swings, the Falcons would force a fifth set winning set four 25-21. In set five, both the Falcons and the Cougars went back and forth point for point. Catholic Central took an 8-5 lead, but with great serving from Ciera Rodney, the Falcons would take a slight lead at 9-8 forcing a Catholic Central timeout. The Cougars answered after the timeout to tie the set up again. Each team fought again for each point, but in the end the Cougars would take the match winning set five 16-14. It was a great match from both teams and each team respectively played very well. The Falcons finish out OK Blue play with a 7-5 record. They open up District play on Wednesday, October 31 here at West Catholic against Forest Hills Eastern at 5:30 pm. Falcons Win: 3 - 0
The Falcons traveled to Spring Lake Tuesday night for a rematch in OK Blue Conference play. The Lakers took an early 2-0 lead in the beginning of the match and each team played great defense and were able to side out quickly through each rotation. West Catholic would take their first lead of the match 17-15, but Spring Lake answered to tie the match up at 17 a piece. Aggressive serving from Kendall Krueger put the Falcons up 22-18, the Falcons would eventually close out set one winning 25-20. In set two the Falcons came out with aggressive serving and effective offense efforts from every player on the court. The Falcons found themselves at a 13-7 lead in the second set, and continued with strong efforts to take set two 25-15. In the third set, the Falcons dominated early in the set with a 7 point serving run from Dana Wila. At 17-5 the Lakers responded by making a late run and finding themselves only down 15-18 in the third. The Falcons stayed composed and closed the match out at 25-22 to sweep the Lakers. The Falcons will return back to West Catholic on Tuesday, October 16 as we honor our two seniors, Dana Wila and Ciera Rodney. First serve will begin at 6pm. Stat Leaders v. Falcons Win: 3 - 1
The Falcons hosted the Spartans of Sparta on Thursday, October 4. Set one was back and forth in terms of points for the Falcons and Spartans. The Spartans took a lead late in the set with a serving run and held the Falcons to a first set loss at 19-25. The Falcons came out in set two with fire and energy and controlled a majority of match at the service line. One of their best offense sets as well hitting a team hitting percentage of .462 which included 14 kills and only 2 hitting errors. The Falcons took set two 25-12. Set three was a mirror of how set two was played, with a team hitting percentage at .400 with 13 kills and 1 hitting error. The Falcons won set three 25-10. In set four the Spartans defense and offense kept the Falcons on their toes, and made for a very intense and competitive game. The Falcons took a slight lead at 20-15 in the fourth set, but the Spartans forced to make their way back into the match and found themselves down 24-23 and would side out to even the score at 24-24. Serves went back and forth on both sides to tie the match again at 25-25. The Falcons found themselves at match point at 26-25 and would close out the match to win 27-25. The Falcons will travel to Spring Lake on Tuesday, October 9 and will play at 6pm. Stat Leaders v. Falcons Lose: 0 - 3
The Falcons traveled to face the Broncos of Coopersville. The Broncos came out of the gate with aggressive serving and a strong defensive effort to hold the Falcons to a 10-25 first set loss. The Falcons came out in set two with tenacity and energy that would help propel them to compete with the Broncos, but eventually the Broncos would take the second set from the Falcons 17-25. In the third set, Coopersville's offense was quick and aggressive, the Falcons defense show composure and hustle, but could not outlast the Broncos. Coopersville would take the match 13-25. The Falcons will return home on Thursday, October 4 to take on the Spartans of Sparta at 6pm. Stat Leaders v. Falcons Win: 3 - 0
The Falcons hosted the Cougars of Catholic Central on Tuesday, September 25. The Falcons found themselves in an early deficit down 1-5. The girls stayed calm and composed and found their way back into the match with the help of serving from Shani Russell, Kendall Krueger and Ciera Rodney. The Falcons would take set one 25-18. In set two the Falcons used their aggressive first contact and defense to hold the Cougars only to 11 points in that set. In the third set, the Cougars found themselves in their first lead of the entire match with aggressive serving and offensively could not let the Falcons respond on defense. The Falcons found themselves down 17-21; Kendall Krueger found herself at the service line and would rally her teammates to be tied at 21-21. The two teams would grit and fight to tie the match up at 23-23, the Falcons maintained a sideout and found themselves at match point. With impeccable defense on both sides of the net, the Falcons were able to close out the match on a kill by Dana Wila. The Falcons improve to 4-3 in the OK Blue and will host the Falcons of Allendale on Thursday, September 27 at 6:00pm. Stat Leaders v. Falcons Win: 3 - 0
The Falcons traveled Thursday evening to compete against the Panthers of Comstock Park. The Falcons jumped out on a good start in set one up 8-5, the Panthers responded evening out the score at 8-8. At 13-10 the Falcons garnered a lead from the serving of Dana Wila to push their lead up to 18-10, but the Panthers continued to chip away to minimize the lead. Ultimately, the Falcons would take set one 25-18. In set two the Falcons jumped out with a 5-0 lead from the serving of Dana Wila. With their lead at 10-4, Chloe Wright came back to the service line and secured another three points from her serve leaving the Falcons ahead at 13-5. Dana Wila again found herself at the service line and would score another eight points and ending set two at 25-10. In set three, the Falcons found a change in their line up and continued to allow their first contact to help them take set three at 25-17. In the third set Dana Wila scored six points from her serve, and Allyson Milligan scored 8 points off her serve as well. The Falcons will return home on Tuesday, September 25 to face the Cougars of Catholic Central. Stat Leaders v. Falcons Lose: 0 - 3
The West Catholic Falcons hosted the Lakers of Spring Lake on Thursday, September 13. The Lakers found themselves pulling ahead by going on a eight point run in the first set and closing out the match 25-16. The Falcons came out in set two with energy and determination by going point for point with Spring Lake, coming out of a 17-20 timeout the Falcons held on as tight as they could with Spring Lake taking set two 25-21. With aggressive serving again in set three from the Lakers, WC found themselves having to dig deep to stay alive in the match with scrappy defense. Ultimately, Spring Lake would take the match, closing out set three 25-17. The Falcons will travel to Comstock Park on Thursday, September 20. Freshmen will play at 4pm, JV will play at 5pm and Varsity will follow at 6pm. Stat Leaders v. Falcons Lose: 2 - 3
The Falcons traveled to face the Spartans of Sparta Tuesday night to continue OK Blue play. The Spartans came out of the gates in sets one and two playing tremendous defensive and getting the Falcons out of their comfort zone. Falcons fell 16-25 in set one and 12-25 in set two. With their backs against the ropes the Falcons found themselves down in set three 9-18. The Falcons would not let the third set go to Sparta as they fought back to win set three 25-21. In set four the Falcons were down 14-19, but a phenomenal serving run from Allyson Milligan helped put the Falcons up 22-20. Defensive on both sides of the net were one for the books, at 23-23 the two and a half minute rally would favor the Falcons putting them up 24-23. With not timeouts left both teams kept fighting until the finish, and your Falcons would take set four 27-25. Heading into the fifth set the Falcons jumped out to a 6-2 lead forcing a Spartan timeout. Sparta would answer back coming out of the timeout tying the game up at 6-6. The Falcons found themselves up 11-8 and Sparta was relentless to tie the game up to 11-11. Another tie at 12-12, Sparta found themselves at match point. The Spartans took set five 15-12. The Falcons will return home on Thursday, September 13 to face the Lakers of Spring Lake. Falcons Lose: 1 - 3
The Falcons opened OK Blue Conference play hosting the Broncos of Coopersville. Both teams came out with a lot of energy and kept the match competitive, the Broncos took a timeout at 15-13 and continued on to a 10-4 scoring run to end set one 25-17. The Falcons responded in set 2 again keeping the match tight point for point; Shani Russell put the Falcons up to a 24-18 lead before the Broncos when a 4-0 scoring run. The Falcons won set 2 25-22. In set 3 the Falcons began the match with a 6-1 lead, but the Broncos did not let that stop them from coming back into the match. Another back and forth set put the Broncos up to a 2-1 lead finishing the set 25-21. Heading into set 4 it was Coopersville that came out with a 5-1 lead and the Falcons continued to chip away to get back into the match. With strong serving and a physical front row the Broncos would take the match winning set 4 25-20. Your Falcons fall to 1-1 in OK Blue play, they will travel to Sparta next Tuesday (9/11) and return home to host Spring Lake next Thursday (9/13). Make sure to come out and support your Lady Falcons! Falcons Win: 3 - 0
The Falcons opened up with OK Blue action at Allendale Tuesday evening. The team came out to a slow start against Allendale but rallied together to pull away with a first set 25-14 win. Set two was no different, Allendale went point for point until with the Falcons. With the game at 19-18, Grace Verdun stepped back to the service line to dish out a few aces and take the lead to 24-18. The falcons closed the second set out at 25-19. In set three your WC Falcons came out to a blazing start with Nicole Sack behind the service line jumping out to a 9-1 start. With maintaining a large lead through the third set, WC would close out the match with a 25-14 score in the third set. The Falcons will host Coopersville on Thursday, September 6 at 6pm. Falcons Win: 4 - 1
The West Catholic Varsity Volleyball team won the Unity Christian Invitational; defeating host team Unity Christian, Vicksburg, Comstock Park and splitting with Kalamazoo Christian and Calvin Christian. They will travel to Allendale to kick off OK Blue Conference play on Tuesday, September 4.
