Falcons Lose: 55 - 73
25-2! It was a matchup of #1 and #2 in the MHSAA Division 2 Finals when the West Catholic girls varsity basketball team faced Detroit Edison Saturday night at The Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State University and the game did not disappoint. In a fast paced first quarter the Falcons led 19-18 on a buzzer beating shot from Ellie Bies. West continued to hang tough with Edison in the first half behind 19 first half points from senior Abbey Kimball and trailed at the half for the first time all season 30-34. The Falcons showed no quit in the second half, however they did not have enough in the end to knock off Edison in the Division 2 Championship game falling 73-55 and finishing as the Division 2 runner up. Cadence Dykstra had a strong post season running the offense and leading an aggressive defense and had 9 points and 6 assists in the Finals. Emma Tuttle had 9 rebounds and Michigan State committ Abbey Kimball led the Falcons with 26 points. Congratulations to Abbey Kimball, Elisha Dykstra, Anna Ignatoski, Becca Tuttle, Ellie Bies, Emma Tuttle, Grace Nyeholt, Paige Seely-London, Karlie Kurlenda, Cadence Dykstra, Reese Polega, together as one, the West Catholic girls varsity basketball team finished the 2021-2022 season at 25-2 (14-0 OK Blue Conference Champions) and as MHSAA Division 2 runner up. THE FINALS! The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team has advanced to the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals for the first time since 1995 after their 62-42 semifinal victory over Detroit Country Day. The Falcons used balanced scoring and won the battle of the boards led by Emma Tuttle who had a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Reese Polega who had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Cadence Dykstra running the offense finished just shy of a double double with 10 points and 7 assists. Anna Ignatoski led all scorers with 15 points and 3 steals. Next up for the Falcons will be #1 Detroit Edison in the Division 2 Finals back at the Breslin Center Saturday night at 6:30. Go West!

Falcons Win: 82 - 27
FINAL FOUR! For the first time since 1995 the West Catholic varsity girls basketball team has advanced to the MHSAA Division 2 semifinals with their 82-27 quarterfinal victory over previously unbeaten Ewardsburg. The Eddie's scored first before the Falcon's defense took over and West sprinted out to a 26-5 first quarter lead. West played complimentary team basketball all game led by Cadence Dykstra and had a 42-17 advantage with three players scoring in double figures at the half. As a team the Falcons knocked down eleven 3-pointers led by Anna Ignatoski's 20 points. Abbey Kimball added 19 points and Reese Polega, 10, and Emma Tuttle had 9 points. Next up for the Falcons is a semifinal matchup with Detroit Country Day at the Michigan State Breslin Center on Friday. Tip is scheduled for 5:30. Go West!

REGIONAL CHAMPIONS! The West Catholic girls basketball team advanced to the regional finals for the third time in three years against Newaygo and avenged last years loss to win their first regional championship since 1995. The Falcons used a dominating defense to hold Newaygo to just two first quarter points as they raced out to a 16-2 first quarter lead and never looked back. Cadence Dykstra was solid all game running the offense and led all scorers with 17 points and Elisha Dykstra added 9 points in the 55-29 victory. Reese Polega and Emma Tuttle both helped control the boards and each had 7 points. West Catholic advances to the Division 2 Quarterfinal at Wayland against undefeated Edwardsburg on Tuesday night. Falcons Win: 55 - 43
The West Catholic girls basketball team traveled to Muskegon Orchard View Tuesday night for a semi final regional matchup against former City League foe Grand Rapids Christian. Both teams struggled to get their offenses going in a back in forth first quarter before the Falcons found some offense in the second quarter. Abbey Kimball scored 13 of her team high 28 points in the second quarter and West took a 29-18 lead into halftime. West Catholic had some key defensive stops and rebounds in the second half led by a good defensive effort from Elisha Dykstra, Ellie Bies and Reese Polega. Cadence Dykstra had another strong game running the offense and hit key free throws down the stretch and Emma Tuttle had nine rebounds in the 55-43 win. The Falcons travel back to Muskegon on Thursday to play in the regional finals against Newaygo. Tip is 7pm. Go West

DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team made it three district championships in three years Friday night at Unity Christian in front of a great crowd against their cross town rivals Catholic Central 64-29. The Falcons used a dominating defense and controlled the boards to keep the Cougars under thirty points for the game. Abbey Kimball and Anna Ignatoski combined for eight 3 pointers and led the Falcons with 24 and 19 points respectively. Cadence Dykstra had another strong game as the floor leader and added 9 points and Emma Tuttle had 10 rebounds. The girls varsity basketball team opened the 2022 districts at Unity Christian against Forest Hills Eastern on Wednesday night. The Falcons jumped out early on the Hawks and never trailed in their 73-25 semifinal district win. Elisha Dykstra had the hot early hand scoring seven of her 13 points in the first quarter. Emma Tuttle pulled down 10 rebounds and Cadence Dykstra had another strong game assisting her teammates and added 8 points. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 26 points. Next up for the Falcons will be a district final matchup with Catholic Central Friday night at Unity Christian. Tip is 7pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 76 - 29
The West Catholic girls basketball team concluded their regular season Friday night at home against visiting Spring Lake. Celebrating senior night the Falcons never trailed in the 76-29 victory. Senior and Miss Basketball finalist Abbey Kimball was a perfect 11/11 from the free throw line and finished out her final home game with a game high 32 points. Emma Tuttle dominated the boards and had 11 points and Cadence Dykstra had a strong game setting up her teammates and added 8 points in the win. Next up for the 19-1 (14-0 OK Blue) Falcons will be district semi finals at Unity Christian on Wednesday night. West will play the winner of Allendale/Forest Hills Eastern and game time is scheduled for 5:30. Go West!

Falcons Win: 97 - 19
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played their first home game in over a month Tuesday night against Fruitport. The Falcons started fast and shared the basketball all night as all ten players scored in the 97-19 victory, including four players in double figures. As a team West Catholic knocked down ten 3 pointers led by Abbey Kimball's four 3 pointers and 22 points. Anna Ignatoski provided great energy off the bench and had 21 points. Cadence Dykstra set up her teammates throughout the game and had 15 points and Elisha Dykstra added 14 points in the win. The 18-1 (13-0 OK Blue) Falcons will close out their regular season Friday on senior night against Spring Lake, Tip is scheduled for 7:30 following the boys varsity game. Go West

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Coopersville Friday night for their seventh consecutive road game and clinched the OK Blue Conference with a 61-17 victory. Grace Nyeholt was 8/10 from the free throw line and had 8 points to help pace the Falcons on the road. Anna Ignatoski added 10 points and Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 21 points. The 17-1 (12-0 OK Blue) Falcons will be at home on Tuesday against Fruitport. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 following the JV game. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Unity Christian for a conference contest on Tuesday night and came home with a 69-24 victory. Emma Tuttle had a strong game controlling the boards and had 14 points for the Falcons. Reese Polega added 9 points and Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 30 points. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Allendale Friday night and took control from the opening tip dominating both ends of the floor. West jumped out to a 19-3 first quarter lead on their way to a 71-19 victory. All ten players who took to the court scored for the visiting Falcons led by Abbey Kimball's game high 20 points. Anna Ignatoski chipped in 9 points and Alisha Dykstra and Reese Polega both finished with 8 points. The 15-1 (10-0 OK Blue) Falcons will next travel to Unity Christian on Tuesday. 7pm scheduled tip. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Holland Christian Tuesday night and were tested early by the home team trailing 13-10 after the first quarter before the Falcons defensive pressure asserted itself holding the Maroons to 21 points over the next three quarters. Cadence Dykstra had a nice game running the West Catholic offense and had 15 points in the 72-34 victory. Abbey Kimball had six 3 pointers and led all scorers with 34 points. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened the second half of their conference season on the road traveling to Hamilton Friday night. Despite not playing in a week the Falcons started fast behind strong defensive pressure and Elisha Dykstra scored all seven of her points in a 24-8 first quarter. Abbey Kimballl scored 15 of her game high 23 points in the first half as West led 46-22 going into the locker room. As a team West Catholic made ten 3 pointers and Anna Ignatoski added 14 points and Reese Polega 8 in the 68-29 victory. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team completed the first half of the conference schedule by traveling to Spring Lake to take on the Lakers Friday night. The Falcons wasted no time getting into the scoring column jumping out to a 19-9 first quarter lead behind 13 points from Abbey Kimball. Reese Polega had a strong game rebounding and shooting from long range. Polega had four 3-pointers and 19 points in the 72-39 victory. Kimball led all scorers with 35 points and had seven 3-pointers. Abbey Kimball has now surpassed 1500 points at West Catholic. The 12-1 (7-0 OK Blue) Falcons will travel to Hamilton next Friday. Tip is scheduled for 7pm. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team took to the road for the first time since December when they traveled to snowy Fruitport Tuesday night.  All eleven Falcons scored in the 68-9 victory and Abbey Kimball had a game high 23 points. The West Catholic girls basketball team finished out exam week and a six game home stand in convincing fashion with a 86-21 victory against Coopersville  on Friday night. The Falcons used a strong defensive effort and outscored the Broncos in all four quarters. Abbey Kimball and Cadence Dykstra started the offensive output combing for 20 of the Falcons 28 first quarter points. Kimball made seven 3 pointers and led all scorers with 32 points. Freshman Anna Ignatoski had three 3 pointers and added 17 points and Cadence Dykstra and Ellie Bies had 9 and 8 points respectively the Falcons. The West Catholic girls basketball took to the court Tuesday night against visiting Unity Christian. The host Falcons started fast in the first quarter with a relentless defense spearheaded by Cadence Dykstra and Abbey Kimball. West jumped out to a 25-7 first quarter lead and Elisha Dykstra had 11 of her 16 points in the first quarter. Kimball had five 3 pointers in the second quarter on her way to a game high 31 points. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team helped celebrate the induction of the 1990 State Championship Girls Basketball team into the West Catholic Hall of Fame with a dominating 65-17 win against visiting Allendale on Friday night. The Falcons from West never trailed and out scored Allendale in all four quarters. West Catholic's smothering defense shut out Allendale in the first quarter as West jumped out to a 22-0 first quarter lead. Elisha Dykstra had the early hot hand with 9 of her 15 points in the opening stanza. West Catholic never let up their pressure and Abbey Kimball led a balanced scoring attack with a game high 21 points. Cadence Dykstra ran the show and added 8 points along with 8 points from Anna Ignatoski. The 8-1 (3-0) West Catholic Falcons continue their six game homestead on Tuesday night against Unity Christian. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 pm. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team continued their home stand against conference foe Holland Christian Tuesday night. The Falcons started fast behind a strong defensive effort jumping out to a 17-2 first quarter lead. Emma Tuttle controlled the boards and Abbey Kimball had 17 of her team high 29 points in the first half as the Falcons held Holland Christian to just six first half points. The West Catholic girls basketball opened OK Blue Conference play with a home game against Hamilton Friday night. The Falcons had a strong defensive effort against a very good Hawkeyes team as they sprinted out to a 18-10 first quarter lead. Abbey Kimball had seven of her team high 19 points in the second quarter as the Falcons took a 35-18 lead into halftime. West continued to push the tempo with its defense in the third quarter and Elisha Dykstra benefited with six of her 11 points coming in transition in the 22-12 third quarter. The Falcons had balanced scoring as Anna Ignatoski, Ellie Bies and Cadence Dykstra each added 8 points in the 69-40 victory. The 6-1 (1-0) Falcons return to the court on Tuesday against Holland Christian. The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened the 2022 portion of the season with their first game of a six game home stand against Muskegon Reeths-Puffer. The Falcons started fast in the first quarter with balanced scoring from all five starters and led 18-9 after one quarter of play. The defense continued to create quick scoring opportunities in the second quarter and a late three from freshman Anna Ignatoski gave West a 38-24 lead going into the half. West Catholic never trailed and went on to win 58-44. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 19 points and Elisha Dykstra added 10 points for the 5-1 Falcons. West will open OK Blue Conference play on Friday at home against Hamilton following the boy's varsity game, approximately 7:30. Go West!

Falcons Lose: 46 - 50
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played in the Blue Division finals of the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament and came up just short to a very good Rockford Rams team 50 - 46. The Falcons jumped out to an early 26-13 lead in the first quarter behind the hot shooting of Abbey Kimball. Kimball knocked down 5 first quarter three pointers on her way to a game high 24 points. The Falcons and the Rams battled all night long and West wasn't able to overcome the hot shooting of Rockford down the stretch in the decisive fourth quarter. Cadence Dykstra was the floor leader all night and added 11 points and went 6/6 from the free throw line. The Falcons will be off until January 2022 when they will return home to play on January 4th against Muskegon Reeths- Puffer. Tip is scheduled for 7:00pm. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament against the 3-0 Forest Hills Central Rangers on Tuesday night at Cornerstone University. Led by a relentless defense the Falcons jumped out to a 23-9 first quarter lead and cruised to a 64-32 victory over the previously unbeaten Rangers. West Catholic had balanced scoring led by Abbey Kimball and Anna Ignatoski who both finished with 11 points. Cadence Dykstra set the tone on defense and added 10 points for the 4-0 Falcons. West Catholic will next take on Rockford in the Blue Division finals Thursday afternoon at 4:45 at Cornerstone University. Go West!

The West Catholic varsity girls basketball team played their first home game of the young season Thursday night against the visiting Muskegon Big Reds. The Falcons started fast in the first quarter behind 19 points from senior Abbey Kimball and ran out to a commanding 27-6 lead. The Falcons defensive pressure created problems for the Big Reds in the second quarter and Falcons led 48-16 at the half. Junior Cadence Dykstra had a strong game running the West Catholic offense and had 10 points including 4-4 from the free throw line. As a team West went 21-23 from the charity stripe. Abbey Kimball had a new career high with 43 points and the Falcons are now 3-0. West Catholic will play next at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament on Tuesday against Forest Hills Central. Falcons Win: 63 - 23
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team continued their early season road travels with a Friday night game at Sparta. The visiting Falcons jumped out to a 22-9 first quarter lead and cruised from there to a 63-23 victory at Sparta. The Falcons only allowed four second half points and were led in scoring by Abbey Kimball's 27 points. West knocked down eleven three pointers and Alisha Dykstra added 12 points followed by Reese Polega's 10 points. The 2-0 Falcons will play at home for the first time this season on Thursday against Muskegon. Scheduled tip-off is 7:00 pm. Go West!
