Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Hamilton Community Schools

Falcons Win: 50 - 27
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Coopersville for the District 43 finals against a very good and physical team from Hamilton on Friday night. The Hawkeyes from Hamilton opened up an early 4-0 lead before the Falcons from West Catholic found their scoring touch behind 4 key points from Cadence Dykstra and 5 combined points from Maddie Smith and Olivia Vallone and West led 11-10 after the first quarter. The second quarter went back and forth between the two teams and a late basket from Abbey Kimball gave the Falcons a 23-16 lead going into the locker room. Mya Mileski, Crysta Daetwiler and Karly Kurlenda controlled the boards for West Catholic and did a sold job on defense in the third quarter as the Falcons extended their lead to 36-23 after three quarters. Abbey Kimball scored 20 of her game high 22 points in the second half and the Falcons from West Catholic went on to claim the District 43 Championship 50-27 over Hamilton. West will now travel to Fremont for a regional semi final game against Grand Rapids Christian on Monday night at 5:30. Go West!

Falcons Win: 68 - 16
The West Catholic girls basketball team opened district play at Allendale on Wednesday night against Allendale. Playing for the first time in a week. The short handed Falcons scored 16 points in the first quarter as Cadence Dykstra and Abbey Kimball combined for 12 points as the Falcon defense held Allendale to 3 opening quarter points and only 5 total points at the half and West led 39-5 going into the locker room. Crysta Daetwiler provided valuable minutes and scored 8 points in the 68-16 victory, as did Maddie Smith. Olivia Vallone had 9 points and Cadence Dykstra added 12 points. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 23 points. The Falcons will play Hamilton in the district finals Friday night at Coopersville. Tip off is scheduled for 7pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 61 - 30
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Holland Christian Tuesday night for a conference game against the host Maroons. West started fast behind 11 Abbey Kimball first quarter points as the Falcons sprinted out to a 20-7 first quarter lead. Maddie Smith had two 3 pointers and had 10 points in the 61-30 victory for the visiting Falcons. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 28 points. The 13-0 (12-0 OK Blue) Falcons will close out the shortened regular season at Hamilton on Friday night. Tip off 7pm. Go West!

Falcons Win: 68 - 4
The West Catholic girls basketball team played at home Thursday night against the visiting Trojans from Fruitport. The Falcons started fast scoring early and often jumping out to a 20-0 lead before Fruitport put their first points on the board in the first quarter. Maddie Smith knocked down three of her four 3 pointers in the first half as the Falcons led 43-4 going into halftime. West played tenacious defense and unselfish basketball all night improving their record to 11-0 (OK Blue/Overall). Abbey Kimball had 13 points and Maddie Smith led all scorers with 14 points. West Catholic will play their final home game of the season on Saturday at 1:00 against Coopersville. Saturday will also be Senior Night for the six Falcon seniors. Go West!

Falcons Win: 72 - 33
The West Catholic girls basketball team traveled to Spring Lake Tuesday night in another OK Blue conference game with the host Lakers. The Falcons started fast and sprinted out to a 21-10 first quarter lead behind 5 points from senior Grace Lodes. Maddie Smith had the hot hand in the second quarter knocking down two of her three 3 pointers and finished with 15 points. Cadence Dykstra had a strong game running the Falcon offense and had 12 points in the 73-33 victory. The 10-0 (OK Blue/Overall) Falcons were led by Abbey Kimball's 19 points. West Catholic will play their next two games at home beginning Thursday night against Fruitport. Go West!

Falcons Win: 62 - 20
The West Catholic girls basketball team traveled to Hudsonville Friday night to take on Unity Christian. The Falcons led from start to finish on their way to a 62-20 victory. Maya Mileski had a strong inside game and finished with 15 points. Maddie Smith drained three 3 pointers and added 11 points for the 9-0 (OK Blue/Overall) Falcons. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 17 points. West Catholic will be on the road again on Tuesday when they visit Spring Lake. Go West!

Falcons Win: 50 - 37
The West Catholic girls basketball team traveled to Allendale Tuesday night to start the second half of the 2020-2021 shortened season. The home team from Allendale jumped out to an early 10-6 first quarter lead and kept the pressure on the visiting Falcons throughout the first half. A late second quarter run behind 8 points from Maya Mileski and 4 timely points from Cadence Dykstra put West Catholic in the locker room leading 24-23 at the half. Mileski and Dykstra combined to scored ten of the visiting Falcons thirteen third quarter points and West led 37-34 going into the fourth quarter. The West Catholic's defense was the difference in the fourth quarter holding Allendale to three points and the Falcons left Allendale with hard earned 50-37 victory. Maya Mileski had a career high 22 points to lead all scorers. Abbey Kimball finished with 11 points. The OK Blue/Overall 8-0 Falcons will play Friday night at Unity Christian. Go West!

Falcons Win: 71 - 35
The West Catholic girls basketball team played a Saturday matinee against the visiting Hamilton Hawkeyes. The first quarter started with both teams trading early baskets and then the Falcon defense kicked in and they led 21-10 after the first quarter. Maddie Smith had a strong defensive effort and had 10 first have points. Abbey Kimball knocked down 4 three pointers in the second quarter and West took a commanding 44-19 lead into the half. Maya Mileski controlled the boards and had 6 of her 10 points in the third quarter. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 34 points and has now reached the 1000 point plateau as a junior. The 7-0 (OK Blue//Overall) Falcons next play Tuesday at Allendale. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played a rare Thursday night regular season game against a very physical Holland Christian team. Maya Mileski was dominant on the offensive boards scoring ten of her 19 points in the 20-5 first quarter for the Falcons. The West Catholic defensive pressure picked up in the second quarter and Abbey Kimball scored 12 of her team high 25 points as the home team from the West Side took a 40-7 lead into the half. Next up for the 6-0 (OK Blue/Overall) Falcons will be a 1pm Saturday showdown with Hamilton at West Catholic. Go West!

The West Catholic girls basketball team traveled to Coopersville Tuesday night for their second road game against the host Broncos. The defense set the tone early for the Falcons as they scored early and often off the home team's turnovers on their way to a 69-10 victory. Olivia Vallone had a strong overall game and had 11 points for West Catholic. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 24 points. The West Catholic girls basketball team traveled to Fruitport for their first road game of the young season. The Falcons scored early and often as every Falcon scored on their way to a 79-12 victory against the Trojans. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 22 points. Maddie Smith had 12 points and Maya Mileski added 10 points for the 4-0 (OK Blue/Overall) Falcons. West Catholic travels to Coopersville on Tuesday for the first of three games next week that includes home games against Holland Christian and Hamilton. Go West!

Falcons Win: 66 - 26
The West Catholic girls basketball team played Tuesday night at home against visiting Spring Lake. Leading 15-7 after the first quarter, the Falcons broke open a close game with a 9-0 run in the first 1:35 of the second quarter. Freshman Reese Polega set the tone defensively for the home team and the Falcons led 37-17 at the half. Cadence Dykstra had a strong game leading the offense and had 13 points on the night and Olivia Vallone sprinted her way to 12 points. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 28 points. The 3-0 Falcons travel to Fruitport on Friday for their first away game. Go West!

The West Catholic girls basketball team returned to action Friday night against the visiting Crusaders from Unity Christian. The Falcons never trailed on their way to a 60-26 victory at home and improved their record to 2-0. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 20 points and Maya Mileski added12 points for the home team. West Catholic plays home on Tuesday against Spring Lake before traveling to Whitehall on Friday. Go West!

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team returned to action for the first time since their regional semifinal win on March 10th of last year with a 63-25 victory over conference rival Allendale. The Falcons from West Catholic scored early and often Tuesday night led by Abbey Kimball's 25 points and Maddie Smith's 12 points. Next game for the Falcons will be Friday night against Unity Christian at West Catholic. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm. Go West!
