Falcons Win: 71 - 25
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team scored early and often in their quarterfinal district game at Allendale versus Wellspring Prep. The Falcons flew out to a 21-0 first quarter lead before the Wolves scored their first point of the game. Maddie Smith and Abbey Kimball led all scorers in the win, both finishing with 20 points on the night. The Falcons, 11-10, will now face Catholic Central, in a district semifinal game at Allendale on Wednesday night. Game time is 7pm.

Falcons Win: 59 - 48
The girls varsity basketball team traveled to Hopkins for their regular season finale and left with a 59-48 victory. West jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter lead with balanced scoring from six Falcons. West Catholic was able to extend their 31-29 halftime lead to six points going into the final quarter. Maddie Smith knocked down four three pointers and finished with a team high 16 points. Senior Dana Wila, had a strong game in all areas, and had 15 points. Abbey Kimball rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 points. The win evened the young Falcons record to 10-10 and they will now prepare to play Wellspring Prep in a first round district game at Allendale on Monday night. Game time is 6pm.

Falcons Lose: 48 - 64
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team closed out the conference portion of their season at Comstock Park, losing 64-48, to the host Panthers. Abbey Kimball led the Falcons with 18 points. West Catholic, 9-10 (3-9), play at Hopkins on Tuesday.

Falcons Lose: 50 - 62
The West Catholic girls basketball team closed out the home portion of their schedule on Friday night against Spring Lake. West fell behind early and despite seven combined three pointers from Teeny Phelan and Ellen Green, the Falcons were not able to overcome a double digit, 35-17, first half deficit. Phelan led West Catholic with 18 points and Ellen Green added 11 points. The Falcons are now 9-8 (3-7) and will play at Allendale on Tuesday night.

Falcons Win: 51 - 50
The West Catholic girls basketball team had to wait an extra day to pick up their ninth win when they traveled to Unity Christian for a rare Wednesday night contest. The Crusaders jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, before the Falcons were able to find their scoring touch and trailed 12-9 after the first quarter. A strong third quarter erased Unity Christian’s five point half time lead, and West led 38-37 going into the fourth quarter. The game would continue to go back and forth, before Abbey Kimball’s two free throws with 15.1 seconds left in the game, to put the Falcons up 51-50. Kimball led all scorers with 28 points and Teeny Phelan had 9 points all in the second half. West Catholic now 9-7 (3-6) will play their final home game Friday against Spring Lake.

Falcons Lose: 47 - 51
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team played a rare Monday night game against Comstock Park and came up short losing 51-47. Abbey Kimball led the Falcons with 17 points, including going 5/5 from the free throw line, and Crystal Daetwiler added 14 points. West Catholic, 8-7 (3-6), has a quick turnaround and will play at Unity Christian on Tuesday night.

The girls varsity basketball team played at home against Sparta Friday night and came up on the short end losing 52-43. Abbey Kimball led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points and Teeny Phelan added 11 points. The Falcons are 8-6 (3-5) and will play Monday night at home against Comstock Park.

Falcons Win: 50 - 49
The West Catholic girls basketball team played their cross town rivals, Catholic Central, Tuesday night at West and avenged an earlier loss to the Cougars in exciting fashion. The Falcons played their finest and most complete game of the season, and were not to be denied, even after Catholic Central tied the game, 49-49, in the final 15 seconds of the fourth quarter. The Falcons advanced the ball against the Cougar’s pressure, and were fouled, which set up the dramatic finish. Sophomore Anna Overbeek’s free throw with 5.1 seconds proved to be the winning margin, 50-49, as the Falcons were able to come up with a defensive stop, not allowing a last second Catholic Central shot. Abbey Kimball had 17 points, including going 4/4 from the foul line in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Teeny Phalen added 12 points, and had a key three pointer in the third quarter. The Falcons are now 8-5 (3-4) and will host Sparta on Friday at West Catholic.

Falcons Lose: 41 - 60
The West Catholic girls basketball team returned to action Friday night, after a week of weather related cancellations, and traveled to Coopersville to take on the Broncos. The Falcons started strong, leading 15-14, after the first quarter, however, they struggled to maintain the early momentum, losing 60-41. Teeny Phelan led West in scoring with 10 points. The 7-5 (2-4) Falcons will play at home on Tuesday against Catholic Central.

Falcons Win: 58 - 35
The West Catholic girls varsity team worked their back into the win column against Allendale Tuesday night at West. The Falcons from West Catholic outscored the Falcons from Allendale in every quarter on their way to a 58-35 victory. Anna Overbeek and Crysta Daetwiler had strong post play, with Overbeek scoring 14 points and Daetwiler adding 12 points. Abbey Kimball led all scorers with 17 points. West Catholic improved to 7-4 overall, 2-3 in the OK Blue, and will host Comstock Park on Friday.

The girls varsity basketball team took to the road for the third straight game and lost 56-50 to Spring Lake. Abbey Kimball had 20 points and Maddie Smith added 11 points. The Falcons (6-4/1-3) return to action on their home court on Tuesday against Allendale.

The varsity girls basketball team opened the OK Blue Conference with an exciting 44-39 victory over Coopersville, Friday night at West Catholic. The Falcons, led by senior Dana Wila’s 16 points, improved to 6-1 (1-0), on the season. Abbey Kimball added 13 points, including two crucial free throws, late in the 4th quarter, to help secure the win for the young Falcons. West Catholic will travel to Catholic Central on Tuesday.

The West Catholic girls basketball team returned to action for the first time in 2019, with a 74-6 win, against visiting West Michigan Aviation Academy. The Falcons had balanced scoring, led by Teeny Phalen and Abbey Kimball, both scoring 16 points. Dana Wila added 10 points for the Falcons who improved to 5-1. OK Blue Conference action begins on Friday, with West Catholic hosting Coopersville.

The West Catholic girls varsity basketball, behind a strong defensive performance, improved their record to 3-1, with a 61-19 victory against Muskegon Catholic Central. The Falcons had three players in double figures, led by Abbey Kimball’s 15 points. Maya Mileski and Teeny Phalen, added 12 and 10 points, for the victorious Falcons. West will play one more time before the Christmas break, when they travel to MCC, to take on Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart.

Falcons Win: 52 - 39
The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team completed a triple header sweep against Wayland Friday night at home. The varsity team capped off the evening with a 52-39 victory against the visiting Wildcats. The Falcons used a big 21 point second quarter to open up a close game and take a 29-12 first half lead into the locker room. Two West Catholic Falcons scored in double figures, with Abby Kimball leading the way with 19 points. Teeny Phalen had a strong third quarter, scoring eighth of her 11 points, and the Falcons were able to extend their halftime lead to 21 points, going into the fourth quarter. The 2-1 Falcons will play at home Tuesday night against Muskegon Catholic Central.

The West Catholic Falcons outscored the Lowell Red Arrows in every quarter on their way to a 53-26 victory at Lowell on Tuesday night. Leading by five, at halftime, the Falcons turned up the defensive pressure on the Red Arrows, holding them to a one point third quarter. Abby Kimball led a trio of double digit scoring Falcons with 21 points. Maya Mileski had 12 points and Teeny Phelan added 10 points for West in the win. West Catholic, 1-1, will play at home on Friday, against Wayland.

Falcons Lose: 47 - 52
The Grand Rapids West Catholic girls varsity basketball team opened the 2018-2019 season at home against Traverse City West. The young Falcons trailed by nine points entering the fourth quarter and despite their spirited play, fell short of victory, losing 47-52, to the visiting Titans. Abby Kimball led the way for West scoring 24 points and Maya Mikeski added 10 points. West Catholic plays next Tuesday at Lowell.
