The West Catholic girls varsity basketball team traveled to Coopersville for the District 43 finals against a very good and physical team from Hamilton on Friday night. The Hawkeyes from Hamilton opened up an early 4-0 lead before the Falcons from West Catholic found their scoring touch behind 4 key points from Cadence Dykstra and 5 combined points from Maddie Smith and Olivia Vallone and West led 11-10 after the first quarter. The second quarter went back and forth between the two teams and a late basket from Abbey Kimball gave the Falcons a 23-16 lead going into the locker room. Mya Mileski, Crysta Daetwiler and Karly Kurlenda controlled the boards for West Catholic and did a sold job on defense in the third quarter as the Falcons extended their lead to 36-23 after three quarters. Abbey Kimball scored 20 of her game high 22 points in the second half and the Falcons from West Catholic went on to claim the District 43 Championship 50-27 over Hamilton. West will now travel to Fremont for a regional semi final game against Grand Rapids Christian on Monday night at 5:30. Go West!
