The West Catholic girls basketball team played their cross town rivals, Catholic Central, Tuesday night at West and avenged an earlier loss to the Cougars in exciting fashion. The Falcons played their finest and most complete game of the season, and were not to be denied, even after Catholic Central tied the game, 49-49, in the final 15 seconds of the fourth quarter. The Falcons advanced the ball against the Cougar’s pressure, and were fouled, which set up the dramatic finish. Sophomore Anna Overbeek’s free throw with 5.1 seconds proved to be the winning margin, 50-49, as the Falcons were able to come up with a defensive stop, not allowing a last second Catholic Central shot. Abbey Kimball had 17 points, including going 4/4 from the foul line in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Teeny Phalen added 12 points, and had a key three pointer in the third quarter. The Falcons are now 8-5 (3-4) and will host Sparta on Friday at West Catholic.
