The Falcons traveled to Catholic Central for the final contest of the 2018 conference season last night. The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, but the Cougar serving and defense kept them alive in the set and they would take the first set 25-18. In the second set the Cougars started out with a slight 4-2 lead that they would hold to for the first half of set two, with a 15-12 lead. The Falcon defense stayed relentless and would take set two 25-22. Set three was no different as teams were back and forth point for point until the match was at 19-18 in favor of the Falcons, but a late service run would edge the Cougars and they took set three 25-19. Heading into set four, both teams were playing strong defense and finding any way to put the ball down on the opposing sides of the court. The Falcons had a 20-15 lead, but the Cougars kept fighting back and would tie up the set 20-20. With some great defense and big time swings, the Falcons would force a fifth set winning set four 25-21. In set five, both the Falcons and the Cougars went back and forth point for point. Catholic Central took an 8-5 lead, but with great serving from Ciera Rodney, the Falcons would take a slight lead at 9-8 forcing a Catholic Central timeout. The Cougars answered after the timeout to tie the set up again. Each team fought again for each point, but in the end the Cougars would take the match winning set five 16-14. It was a great match from both teams and each team respectively played very well. The Falcons finish out OK Blue play with a 7-5 record. They open up District play on Wednesday, October 31 here at West Catholic against Forest Hills Eastern at 5:30 pm. Please come out and cheer on your lady Falcons as they start their next journey of post-season play!
