Boys Cross Country News

Regionals at Allendale is a day of excitement, nerves, and more often than not, our fastest racing of the season. For many of us, it's our last opportunity of the season. This was probably the meet we worked the most as a team! The varsity boys had a spread of 48 seconds which means the first and last for varsity were only 48 seconds apart! The trend of the boys all season has been they shift places in the varsity order because they run pretty similar in pace. That worked in our favor to hit some PRs at the meet! Charles Brooks was the number one varsity spot breaking 20 for the first time (19:53). Charles has had a big leap this year from a 23:18 at the Catholic Invitational to a 19:53 to finish it off! Great Improvement Charles! Elisha Fedisoni came into this meet motivated for himself and motivated for his teammates to run for each other! He finished the race for his final high school meet with a 20:14! Elisha has shown great amounts of leadership this season and those experiences of leadership will be essential after graduation!! Good stuff this season Elisha! And coming in third for the varsity was August Christensen who has figured it out at the end here! August ran a 20:29 PR with a strong kick the last mile! We’re glad the “Danish Bullet” joined this season! Also "Sunshine" as in Tim O'Brien had an awesome day! Tim ran a 23 second PR but it was also his finish that helped him! Tim finished his season with 20:34 while starting the year at 23:27! Way to finish strong Tim! Evan Murphy ran his personal best, 20:42! Jack VandeGuchte ran a 20:48 while he and Evan were about even in the race to have someone to run with! Just goes back to how the boys team does a great job of finding each other and making sure we all finish strong! Matt Bouwhuis finished the varsity for a 20:59 SR! Matt could be one of the only seniors next season and he'll be looked to as a leader with someone of all the years of cross under his belt! Good work varsity!

The only PROM runner we had was senior Caleb Huizienga who  hit a great PR for his last race, 21:01! Caleb is another senior captain who's positivity, encouragement, and ability to get along with everyone has helped our team come together! Specifically the boys have come together after the roster shifted around at the beginning of the season. Once we had our core group, we built the camaraderie that comes with a running team. No matter if the boys were just trying to beat one team, they figured out the best way to win is to not be content, keep even splits and finish the last mile strong. Some of our times improved drastically from the first race and that only gets myself and Coach Duba excited for what this group has in store! Glad we had a fast day to cap it off! Good work this year boys!

State finals are November 6th where we'll be there to watch the three qualifying girls have an awesome day Saturday!
