The hockey team continued their streak winning the regional semifinal game to advance to the regional finals last night beating the number one team in the region Lowell Caledonia 4-1. The Falcons open led the scoring 5 minutes into the first period with a goal from Danny Groskiewicz as he beat the goalie low blocker side on a shot from the top of the circle. Colton Laufer and Nolan Rinehart assisted on the goal. 2 1/2 minutes later Colton Laufer scored a power-play goal with assist going to Sam VanSchepen and Matthew Ydenberg. Two minutes later Josh Trent scored an even strength goal with assists going to Brendan Hofmann and Josh Vanschepen as Trendt beat the goalie over his glove for his first of the year. The second period was scoreless. Lowell scored two minutes into the third period to make the game close. With a minute and half to go Tommy Doyle scored on the open net with an assist to Matthew Ydenberg. Noah Herzhaft was lights out in net stopping 25 of 26 shots. This is the hockey teams fifth win in a row. They started the season winless in their first eight games. Since then have gone 7-2-2 in their last 11 ending the season with 3 wins in a row. They will face the winner of Grandville/Hudsonville in the regional final on Saturday at East Kentwood ice arena. Game time is 5 o’clock.
