On Saturday night, the Falcons hockey team beat East Grand Rapids 3 to 2 in a thrilling game that came down to a huge save by Noah Herzhaft to preserve the win with 16 seconds to play in the game. All of the five goals scored in the game were special teams goals. In the first period, with the Falcons on the power play, EGR scored a shorthanded goal to go up 1-0, Corbin Venckus answered with a power-play goal during the same penalty to tie the game up at one. Jake Noordewier assisted on the goal. In the second period, with the Pioneers on the power play, Brendan Hofmann scored a breakaway shorthanded goal to help the Eagles go up 2-1. Noordewier and Benj Bultema
assisted on the goal. However, EGR scored shortly after to tie the game at 2 on the same penalty. In the third period Isaiah Clark scored the team's second short handed goal. Matthew Ydenberg and Noordewi er both assisted on the game winner, giving Noordewier the playmaker (three assists) on the game. Noah Herzhaft played a very strong game shutting the door the rest of the way stopping 34 of the 36 shots. The next game is Monday night at Ferris State Ice Arena vs the Traverse City Bay Reps in the first round of playoffs.
